This book has some harsh reviews and I'm not really sure why. Honestly I liked this book a lot. The book has nice plot twists until the end to keep you guessing! I didn't want to stop because then I wouldn't find out what happens next. A very nice read for sure!
Chills. Couldn't put it down, I read it in under 4 hours... Definitely need to read the sequel..
Like most thrillers, this book was entertaining enough, but it lacked any depth. It's like a watered down, teen version of Dexter.
This was was a little sick and disturbing, even for me. I genuinely don’t know how someone could be a functioning psychopath, without feelings, because I think that would just be sickening. The writing was not bad though, and I definitely didn’t guess the end.
This was just ok for me. Reminds me of Dexter except it's a teenage girl who is the serial killer...killing serial killers. The writing wasnt really my style...never sucked me in and I wasnt invested in any of the characters or what was happening. It was fine...I'm listening to book 2 because I already have it from the library...but it's not something I'd ever bother reading again.
Read in a day party wooo
This book was so gripping!!! I really thought i had it figured out at page 80 but boy was I wrong hahahahah. The only downside was that Lane being some kind of sociopath meant she had no character development and was kinda difficult to read at times. As @Faieza mentioned her being so stereotypical is just ugh... wattpad vibes

Two stars for making Dexter a teenage girl (I don't doubt a Dexter fan someplace has made a complete list of the commonalities, I'm not a Dexter fan, I just have a basic idea of the character and this matches it way too perfectly) and serviceable prose and pacing. An extra star for being set in my hometown. I'll probably read any future ones since this was a very quick read, cost two bucks on audible and the writer might get less derivative as her character grows up.
Two further notes:
1. If you're very sensitive to the term "slut," you might want to avoid this as the seventeeen-year-old main character is very judgmental about her younger sister's sex life. At the same time, teenage girls are not especially polite about siblings they don't like, and the younger sister's sex life is pretty clearly coming from the insecurity of a kid who wants to be liked and loved, so I don't think calling the book itself "slut-shaming" is fair.
2. Yes, I know sociopaths and near-sociopaths are very difficult to write. Lane is actually fairly interesting as this type of character goes.

This was a book that kept me turning the pages to find out what happened, definitely living up to it's 'thriller' billing. I was rec'ed this because I love Dexter and I think maybe that hindered my enjoyment of the book rather than helped it. You know those YA books you read (as an adult) and throughout the story you can't help but feel that if this were an adult novel the author could/would really 'go for it'. This was one of those books. However, I will say that the author's reticence to 'go for it' did pay off with the ending and I found myself understanding/forgiving the decision not to 'go for it'. I did feel it was a little heavy handed in the intentional 'mis' foreshadowing. In the end, I enjoyed the book but perhaps someone who is a little tentative about straight on murder-thrillers would enjoy it more. There's a sequel and I'm undecided yet whether I'm going to pick it up. It depends on whether my brain lingers on Lane and her life and how she handles things or not.
