Reading about Patti Smith’s life and how she got to where she is now was so inspiring. Her writing is so vulnerable that it feels like she’s addressing you personally. I fell in love with her relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe and their connection through art. This made me nostalgic for a time I wasn’t even alive for.

What a beautiful, honest, pure and sad book. It went beyond all my expectations, providing me with so much emotional and intellectual nourishment. I feel inspired and my heart aches. I want to read it again. I love Patti Smith.

this book was ok to me. personally i felt no connection to this book - a lot of the name dropping and references to the 60s-70s didnt rlly affect me since i know practically nothing about life during this time. i thought the writing style was kind of difficult to read. i definitely should’ve chosen a different book (perhaps a more easy read) to start getting back into reading. however i was very engrossed in the relationships built and discussed in the book, i thought the author did a good job at that

Patti Smith remembers her life as an artist in New York in the late 60s and early 70s, and her life with Robert Mapplethorpe as they rose to fame.
