The first part of this novel was not my thing. I have seen Taken one too many times to enjoy a story about a young girl running around Europe with a boy she doesn't know. The entire time she's falling in love (with a complete stranger, might I add) I kept imagining kidnapping scenarios. Apparently, I'm too much of a Mom to enjoy teen fiction like I once did.
However, I persevered. Because this is Gayle Forman, whose writing I love. And it paid off, because the second part of the book was lovely. While the novel tries to pretend it's about lost love, the last half is really the story of a young woman trying to figure out who she is and what she wants. And that's the kind of stuff I can read all day, especially when its written by such a capable author.
So when trying to rate this book, I split it down the middle: two stars for a lackluster, cliched beginning averaged with four stars for a nice coming of age story set amidst helicopter parents, dorm rooms, and Shakespeare.

Truly one of my favorite books ever. I love how she writes, and I loved this series!
2 stars because of the cliffhanger ending & the fact that there was no need for it, I was sick of the continuing back + forth with the female character, disappointing ending.

Oh what can I say? I eat romantic books every single damn time ugh! And this one was as amazing and beautifully written that it would have been a crime to not pull an all nighter for it. I loved everything about this book. Because its a romance novel does not mean it was all about romance. It made me rethink about every single aspect of my life and find a new philosophy I didn't know I was missing out on. I really do recommend this book for the simple reason that if you are gonna get lost in a book make this one an accident.
I really enjoyed this book and omg I want to go to all the places mentioned it it so badly.
I did really enjoy this book! Mostly though, I loved seeing Allyson make friends with Dee, drop Melanie, and find herself. I loved the one day in Paris and the end of the book a lot but I felt like the middle was a bit slow...
I did really like how Gayle Forman showed Allyson finding herself and how she had to push her limits, find a job, go outside her comfort zone and work hard to gain some confidence and learn she's capable of a lot more than she realized.
I loved the transformation of Allyson in this book and ultimately really did enjoy this book.

So that went well.
Gayle Forman is a very good writer. Though the story-line was very simple, it's only the writing style what kept me going.
