I read this in one fevered sitting and truly could not put it down. Mia Vincy has such a gift for writing emotionally rich, layered, beautifully considered characters and creating premises that naturally throw these characters together into tension with each other in a way that can only be resolved by stripping back those layers. And yet despite the angst in this book, it is also riotously funny. My only quibble is that, like the first book, there are just one tiny thing too many happening near the end of the book that ends up crowding the main central plot. Such a minor issue here though, overall I found this to be just a gorgeous, divine read, and one I already want to pick up and start again.

This was an absolute delight to read. Cassandra and Joshua's banter was AMAZING. I laughed out loud in public so many times. It was so clear so early that Joshua was head over heels - even if he wouldn't admit it. Teasing is a favorite love language of mine and Joshua was so good at it.

This book had the potential but i dislike the fleeting angst it gave. I needed it to build up, simmering continuously and boom!

Pleasant surprise. I almost DNF'd because I couldn't stand the male lead. I'm glad I stuck with it and its witty dialogue, layered situations, and unique characters. The second half of this book was beautifully written. Highly recommend.

Oh, this was tender and funny and a proper love story. I think something Vincy excels at is demonstrating how past hurts can linger on in the present in unexpected ways, ways that occasionally made me go I'm in this photo and I don't like it, but ways that nonetheless felt true and made Cassandra and Joshua real to me. Love how early they start liking one another in spite of themselves, and how well they work together as a team. Also love how Vincy turns a third-act conflict trope or two on its head — I found the ending in particular very gratifying.
SpoilerLet him go? Let him try! Meanwhile, he'd already resolved to stay. Bitch!!

Content warning at the beginning of the book lists miscarriage, but I'd also add mention of suicide (does not happen on-page but is discussed in enough detail to warrant a heads up), drug abuse, alcohol abuse, child death, and parent death.

Blurb: After being married in name only for two years, Cassandra DeWitt runs into her previously-widower husband in London, Joshua DeWitt, a man who she has seen only once in her life and who prefers her to be apart due to his own demons & trauma regarding the loss of his wife and the busy life he lives as a wealthy businessman.

This book man. THIS BOOK. It has the best banter I’ve ever read in any HR ever. And I do mean EVER. The plot was great and the character development???? Out of this world. It was steamy and adorable and so fucking wholesome. Things went full circle and it was beautiful. The writing, the story, you can tell how much detail and love the author poured into this one.

A reverse grumpy sunshine with a LI that is one is the most nuanced, interesting and funniest men I’ve ever read about. It’s a MUST read for any HR fans.
