ASS-KICKER ASHLEY!!!
I’ve read a lot of books about amazing, bad ass women, but Ashley Hawkins takes the fucking cake. Holy. SHIT. This story was absolutely amazing! How one 17 year old girl, lost and alone, could endure so much is beyond me. I knew Mindy McGinnis wouldn’t disappoint. She never does!

McGinnis Redeemed herself

I've now read 5 books by Mindy McGinnis. The first 3, I loved. The 4th one (This Darkness Mine) made me question if I wanted to read another book by this author again.

But this one, I absolutely loved. I listen to audio books at work, and I ended up reaching the end just around the time my work day was ending. And I felt like I was feeling Ashley's emotions. Everything she felt as it all came to a close, kept me going and enthralled as I finished my work for the day. I would definitely re-read this book, and would've rushed to get sequel if there was one.

This was a solid survival thriller, which was just what I needed to get myself out of an emotional funk. Nothing groundbreaking, but enthralling and entertaining. Be warned that there is some gore and some disturbing scenes.

If you like descriptive survival books, this is the one for you. I personally skipped several pages because it was too descriptive for me. High schooler friendly but not middle.

This book isn't what I thought it would be. I never thought an author would be able to take a story about a girl alone in the woods and make it interesting, but this book managed that.
I was enraptured by Ashley's story. I was rooting for her the entire time to make it out of those woods. I tried to imagine myself in her situation, and knew that there was no way I could ever come close to being as strong as she was.
My one complaint is only because I'm a dreamer at heart, and I wish that this book had had a bit of a happier ending. It seemed a little loose to me, considering how short the book was. We spend all this time in the woods with Ashley, and then McGinnis seems to rush through the ending, as if she's worried we won't want to stick with the story anymore.
Overall, a very surprising book. One that makes you think, which is not what I expected from this.

Had to take a couple days off because the descriptions were a little much for me but it was pretty good.

DNF @10% maybe
It's too boring. It's just a group of teens in the woods doing absolutely normal stuff and I most definitely cannot tell them apart...

Wow, this was a good book about survival and making it through on your own. I enjoyed Ashley’s tenacity and her not wanting to ever give up. I picked up this book, based on reading Heroine last year. This book was so different, but gave me so much to think about. Be forewarned that there is is graphic content in this. 4.5/5
