I have to say I didn’t care that much for the murder plot but I loved reading about Kya’s growing up, although the ending time skip felt a little too rushed.
Didn’t really see the plot twist coming considering it had already been previously established that Kya was innocent.

Mixed feelings. Some of the writing was incredible and quite loving but at times it was a lil cringe. It’s a story where we are meant to root for Kya but I couldn’t always get behind that.
you can’t murder someone and expect the town not to hate you??? like yes Chase was a dick and was awful to Kya but that doesn’t mean she should get away with murder. Also tate and Kya’s relationship made me uncomfortable at times. “his feelings for her that seemed tangled up between the sweet love for a lost sister and the fiery love for a girl” That’s rlly weird

A beautifully written and cultivated book.  The writing is incredible and the way the author lures you in with a permanent backdrop of nature and unique characterisation is brilliant.  However, plot-wise, this book just wasn't  my cup of tea.  I recommend this to anyone who wants a nature-filled story with a murder mystery subplot and a large focus on coming-of-age drama.

I liked the book and loved parts of it. The development of Kya was lovely, the tender relationship with Tate. The episode with Chase was painful to watch.

The end did make me happy and not happy at the same time. Like other reviewers said
It’s highly unrealistic that Kya pulled off a cold, planned murder

The book starts really slow, but it’s really good once you get into it

The last 150 pages had me on my toes. I really was sure about the trial but the end took me for a ride. I enjoyed the characters and now I can’t wait to watch the movie.

A great read but I did hop on the bandwagon to make sure I finished the book before seeing the movie sunday! I loved the characters, the emotion, the drama, and yet the beautiful simplicity of it all
but wtf I didn’t think she actually killed chase I’ll be interested to see what the movie does w that I always thought Tate did it in an act of love for Kya??
