My review is way late. Life happened.
BUT I devoured this book and the brownies too. Iykyk
Jake is the best kind of book bf.
May have a little bit of ptsd from my own ex husband reading this book but I loved how the fmc stood up for herself and her kids. I hope that’s not a spoiler 🫣.

Let's talk Seal the Deal
5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
3 🌶🌶🌶
The Menu:
Sports Romance
He Falls First
Second Chance Romance
Single Mom x Hockey Player
Protective Cinnamon Roll
MCs in their 30s
Found Family
Scoot over, Noah whatshisface. There's a new Book boyfriend of my dreams. I absolutely ADORED Jake Brooks and I'm telling everyone about him. And a super shout out to the Single Mom Trope because watching him fall in love with little Noah and Meadow just about made my teeth ache. Zoe is the all around best friend a person could have. Because if my best friend doesn't hate my ex with the over zealousness that Zoe does, are they even my best friend? This is a hockey romance, but focuses more on the second chance romance between Jake and his "lady lightning,"Charlie. Don't let that cinnamon roll man fool you. My man Jake has enough dominance in him to fulfill your (my) every needs.

I am looking forward to see how the author grows as a writer. There were moments of the book I really enjoyed and other moments that felt repetitive within the story. The ending felt rushed and a little anti-climatic. I’ve read a lot of hockey romances and this was not my favorite of the genre, just felt like something was missing.
This was a right person wrong time/semi second chance romance done right. I absolutely loved all of the flashbacks we got of them in summer camp as 18-year-old camp leaders. It showed their friendship on different levels; how they could goof off together, lean on each other when their minds got too noisy, ease each others worries about mundane things, and just be themselves, as well as gave us a background on their family life. Jumping forward 12 years and they still have the same spark and pull to each other.
Charlie was a sweet FMC with a lot on her plate, but she definitely had some confidence/backbone issues from her POS ex. She needed a lot of reassurance from the MMC that he was all in...and I mean, a lot. Jake was a very considerate, golden retriever MMC. He constantly showed up/kept all his promises to the kids, and was okay with showing his vulnerabilities (and in turn, was understanding with how the kids felt with a dad who cared more about his work).
Overall, a decent debut novel, but it definitely needs more editing in the sense that there was a lot of repetition of the exact same dialogue within the same chapter and then a few chapters after, which felt unnecessary and made the story drag. The dialogue of the three-year-old was also a little inconsistent throughout the book, and maybe equal attention should have been made for the six-year-old.
