This book was okay. 2.5 stars.
The Writing was good with descriptions, but the plot was slow and not much happened until late in the book.
Morwenna getting her 50 years all at once to become a haggard, coarse white haired hag with blackened teeth. 64 years old. Chill.
You didn’t get to know the main character Tanya well, to empathize with her, nor the idiot grandmother, who played a 1% role.
Made me mad that the sparkly bracelet was the 13 treasures, the name of the book, and yet no pay off. In a euphemism: the gun planted in the first act has to go off.
Potential but nit fully realized. Don’t want to continue to the sequels.

Tanya doesn't see no Disney fairies. No. She sees faeries. And they're mean to her. Playing tricks that make her mom so upset that Tanya gets sent to her grandmother's house. It's an odd house with a caretaker who doesn't like Tanya very much and his son who is just plain weird.
But she'll need help from both of the men when it seems that the magical creatures of the woods are teaming up against her. There's something big going on and Tanya may be the only one who can stop it.

As someone who’s recently begun reading more middle grade fiction I found this novel to have a few similarities to the Spiderwick Chronicles, which makes sense since both series are about fae and things of the like and people generally enjoy reading about fae, especially children. That’s really were the similarities end though.
Moving on to this novel, I found myself really enjoying the characters, especially the fairies themselves. You can’t mistake one for the other and Tanya was done very well in my opinion. She’s very believable as a 13 year old girl who’s been tortured by fairies and sent to live with her grandmother. Speaking of which, the world that Tanya finds herself in once she gets to her grandmother’s house was an interesting one to explore, and provided a great background to all the weirdness going on.
I will say that some parts of the novel were slightly predictable, at least they were to me, as far as some of the reveals about the 13 Treasures went. I do have to say that I enjoyed the inclusion of both Seelie and Unseelie courts, and how each rules for part of the year and thus we have the seasons. Not a lot of people include that in their novels and I appreciate that Michelle did.
Honestly, I just enjoy reading about fairies and other fae creatures, and it seems to me that Michelle did her research on their folklore and included a lot of interesting things into her narrative. There are so many different legends and things of the like about the fae, that it’s just so much fun to play around with.
I do have to say that I wish I’d done a little research into the series when I picked up the first book because I would have liked to read the prequel first, obviously because it would’ve given more backstory into how Tanya got on the fairies radar and things like that.

I enjoyed the writing style of this author. The book was fairly well-written even though the end came out of nowhere. I was not at all prepared for what happened. The title has nothing to do with the main plot; it comes in as a minor side twist, but that's all. I don't know how I feel about it in total; although, I am glad that I didn't buy the physical version of the book. And, I will probably read the sequel.

I had seen this one pop up on TBR’s for middle grade May. It sounded interesting, who doesn’t love fairies!? I ordered it and put it on my Belivathon TBR.
I did like this book but I thought it was just an okay read. It dragged a bit for me and it just took too long for things to happen. I get trying to have some suspense and intrigue but it’s happening the whole entire book.
I always get so frustrated when bad things happen because people refuse to communicate. I’m pretty sure if I was part of a magical world or had some type of ability, I would want to educate any descendants that are the same. Keeping secrets to keep them “safe” never works out. Kids are always questioning everything and always determined to find the answers.
It could be because it was middle grade but I couldn’t really connect to any of the characters. I just really didn’t like Tanya that much and this whole book is about her. If fairies will torment you if you talk or write about them, why on earth would you keep doing it? Eventually, she’s like… “oh, they will stop if I don’t talk/write about them. Maybe I should give them what they want.” *slaps forehead* Come on!
This is a lot darker than I anticipated and was a bit spooky at times. I wasn’t expecting that at all! The last 100 pages are so is where this book really got interesting. So many things are happening that I really wish it started from this point on and continued.
It wasn’t a bad book and the end of the book was much better than the beginning. I’m not sure that I want to continue the series though because I still didn’t really care for Tanya’s character. Again, if I was the targeted audience, maybe I would have enjoyed this one better.

Although I have read this book I can not seem to remember much of the plot other than the fact that I really like it. It was one of those buys where the book cover caught my eye, I read the blurb and gave it a go. I enjoyed the mystery that surrounded the novel and as I don't remember much of it I think i'm going to have to go back and read it along with the sequels.
I shall indeed be putting it back on my To Read list. :)
