Read this in one sitting. Fun and entertaining, hoping for another in the series!

I guess this series shows the difference between adult novels and young adult novels. This is really only half a book. The cliffhanger at the end makes it a requirement to read the next book. The core plot of this book is not terribly interesting. It's main function is to fill in the Myron Bolitar background story, which it partially does. Will go to the next book to complete that process, but not too hopeful after this one.

Fifteen-year-old Mickey Bolitar's life was turned upside down by the death of his father and his mother being sent to drug rehab. Forced to live with his uncle Myron in New Jersey, Mickey is the new kid in town who doesn't quite fit in. He does meet another new kid, Ashley, and they soon become a couple. Then, all of a sudden, Ashley is missing and Mickey begins to track down what happened to her. Coben takes the reader through many twists and turns as Mickey tries to figure out what happened to Ashley, who she really is, if his Dad really is dead, and what his uncle is really up to. This is a fast paced thriller for teens - a little gritty at times from going into a seedy exotic dance club with a little language.

So, this is 'young adult fiction'. The book was a slightly left-field Christmas present, but I more or less enjoyed my trip into a magical world where jocks and nerds exchange awkward one-liners and 15 year old boys become entangled in dangerous criminal conspiracies in between trying to get on the school basketball team.

Also, everyone 'fist bumps' every few pages. I have never seen a single person of any age do this in my entire life, but maybe it's an American thing.

I forgot how good Harlan Coben is and it was such a pleasure to find this book at random in my local community centre. Really pleased to read the adventures of the new generation of Bolitar and literally might have to buy the next book straight away as an ebook to survive the ending!

A page-turner that would probably appeal to boys. Not great literature, but a fun read.
