Devour the Dark by Nikki St. Crowe is a dark MMF romantasy fairytale retelling that I listened to on audio narrated by Shane East, Robert Hatchet, Corvin King, Roxelana Waters, Stella Hunter, Curtis Michael Holland and Diontae Black. This is the second book in the Devourer Series.

This is the second book of Nikki's that I have read, and it won't be my last. I loved the relationship between Hook, Roc, and Wendy. I really enjoyed getting Roc, Hook, Asha, Vane, and Wendy's points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

I can't wait for Dark & Darker to be released on August 12, 2025, so I can get Vane and Roc's origin story.

OMG the full cast of narrators was amazing! They all did an amazing job bringing the story to life. I look forward to listening to all of their work in the future.

I would recommend this series if you're looking for a MMF romance, dark romance, romantasy, or a fairytale retelling.

I definitely recommend reading the Never King series first, followed by book one in this series to get the full experience. The audiobook is full cast and absolutely brilliant—I highly recommend picking it up in that format.

I love the dark, twisted world Nikki has created and how she’s reimagined this story, especially with the added MM element. The MMF scenes are a standout for me. It’s the kind of book filled with morally grey men, steamy moments, and a plot that keeps you engaged and guessing from start to finish.

That said, I do wish I had waited for the series to be complete before starting. It’s been a while since I read the first book, and I struggled to remember some of the details. But even with that, I still really enjoyed this one and I’m excited to read more from Nikki!

I looooove Roc, Hook and Wendy, and the story that’s been building in this series is so compelling, but I have to admit that I just wanted more from this book in general.

The last one left off on such a big cliffhanger, so I knew that a lot of plot had to happen in this one, but everything was so quick and there was very little banter or spice, so I honestly just needed more. I loved what was there, but I was very disappointed that we got so little of the characters just being together and that it all wrapped up so quickly, too. I’m hoping this isn’t the last we see of Roc, Hook and Wendy because I definitely need more of them together!

Also, I’ll avoid too much detail on this since it’s borderline spoilers, but this is probably the first time I’ve ever felt a cameo was too big and that I wanted less of past characters because it felt like they took up way too much screen time when it wasn’t their story to tell.

So, while I loved the writing, Devour the Dark left me wanting more of Roc, Hook and Wendy, less screen time for our cameo characters, and just more in general. This was one of those times where a book just ended far too quickly for me. 🙈 Crossing my fingers that it isn’t the final time we see Roc, Hook and Wendy because I’m utterly fascinated and in love with their dynamics…and we definitely didn’t have enough Roc and Hook in this one. 🥹
