“Never let anyone dull your edges. The world will never be your blade. You must be your own.”
“You are not weak. You never were. Those were the lies they told you. Because a woman who sees her power is a woman who cannot be controlled.”
“He’s my monster now.”
Maybe this is love. Maybe love is the same as worship. We could all learn a thing or two on our knees.
We are the kindling hungry for his flame. There is only one way to burn, and that’s beneath his attention.
“You tell a beast that you understand it?” “Even a monster has a heart.”
He can’t have them, but he must save them.
“Do you remember, Crocodile? ‘Just six words.’” “But I don’t need six. I just need three.”
“Demand what you want. I bow to no man.” “I am no man, Captain.” “Nor monsters.”
“We’ll see about that.”

I didn’t realize how much I missed these characters. Viscous Lost Boys is one of my all time favorite series and I loved Devourer of Men but missed the original characters so I was incredibly happy that we got to see them again and even had a few tag along for the whole book. As always, I wish it was longer. I also wish there were more of Vane’s pov and at least one of Winnie’s (I know it’s not technically their book but I love them).
The minute I saw Vane and Roc’s last name (after knowing what object they needed to fix Roc) I guessed exactly where they are from and what they are and I was technically wrong about what they are, but I was still kinda right because I think that’s what their uncle is.
I’m kinda sad that Nikki is doing a Wizard of Oz retelling and not the retelling that she opened up at the end of this book. But maybe the origin story of Vane and Roc: Dark and Darker Still, that she’s writing will go more into that world.
I absolutely love how Winnie puts the boys in their place, especially Pan. And I’m so glad she got to meet Wendy.
Wendy needing reassurance/validation is so real and I loved when Hook realized how similar they are in that sense.
THE CAT OMG, Roc naming her Firecracker is so cute.
I ate up (no pun intended lol) Vane and Roc’s relationship and I am so excited to get more of it in their origin story.
I am absolutely not mad that Cherry apparently doesn’t exist in this book but I am confused because I’m pretty sure she was on the ship at the end of the last book. Did Roc eat her lol? (I hope so)

I personally enjoy seeing the POV of other characters. There were so many new interactions to explore between characters that we know, but haven’t seen together. I think it would’ve landed better for more readers if we got *more* of the main characters, but alas.
The plot kept me interested and I thought the big reveal at the end was a very interesting take and opens up the path for SO MANY MORE BOOKS AND ADVENTURES!!

This is the second book in the Devourer series and it really is taking off. The audio is back with a multi-cast crew featuring Shane East, Robert Hatchet, Corvin King, Roxelana Waters, Stella Hunter, Curtis Michael Holland & Diontae Black. Honestly such a knockout cast.
We have our Roc, Wendy, and Hook back to continue their adventures, but we also get return appearances from some of the favorites from series past. The little tease of a new character is also so exciting.
Thank you Must Love Audio, East House Productions, and Nikki St. Crowe for an advance listener copy.
