This is an eerie tale of life after death. We are following Allie and Nick, recently deceased, as they learn the rules to navigate Everlost. This is the place where it seems only children end up on their way to where they're supposed to be. It is full of equal amounts danger and wonder if you are able to explore it. When they find the twin towers in Manhattan (a location deemed a dead spot) they are able to stay there and make a home. However, Allie doesn't fall for Mary Hightower's 'everything is perfectly fine and we are meant to be here' speech. Shenanigans ensue and her, Nick, and their friend Lief go on a wild adventure to understand the meaning of death.
I really liked this science fiction for kids. I felt that the world-building was very effective and the explanations for why the Everlost exists and how you pass through and around it were logical. The character development was excellent and I really felt as though I knew who each of the 5 main characters were (Allie, Nick, Lief, Mary, the McGill). Even the side characters were fully developed through the 3rd person omniscient perspective that illuminated many other workings of the story. Some of the language describing features and beauty did not age well, so be aware of that going in.

READ THIS WITH MY FRIEND CHIV ^_^
So since I love both Neal Shusterman's Unwind series, I decided to try out some of his other books. I was quite surprised when I found out that I loved this book even more than the Unwind series.
This book is Addicting, creative, fascinating and just so entertaining that I'll keep you on your toes until you're done with it.
THINGS I LOVED:
Absolutely everything: The Characters were amazing and I loved how they developed through the book and how they connected with each other. All the characters in this book are dead so it was very different to read about dead characters and how they dealt with being dead, and eventually you start to sympathize with them. The plot is amazing and I'll keep you entertained throughout the book. It has so many plot twists and things you just want to know more about. There were some loose ends at the end of the book that made me really wanna pick up the next book right away. The thing I absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED about this book was the worldbuilding. The world was described with less vibration and the world had a very dark tone to it. I loved how Neal Shusterman described the world and how he used his words to describe it.
This book is written so perfectly that it will captivate you from the first sentence.
READ THIS BOOK if you like books that are captivating and definitely interesting/mysterious like Gone and the Unwind series. I can't wait to check out the rest of the trilogy.

OK, beginning was very boring :( .Ending was pretty good so 2.5 *
It holds an interesting concept, what if you got stuck in between life and death? But Shusterman's average, Young Adult writing prevents this story from being as deep and philosophical as it aims to be.
Everlost by Neal Shusterman brings up a different view of the Afterlife. When someone dies, they head toward a light which brings them to wherever it is they were going. But sometimes something happens that knocks you off track.
Allie and Nick were in different cars when the crash happened. Next thing they knew, they were floating in a dark space heading for a bright light. Somehow, they bumped into each other and both went flying off course. Nick and Allie woke up in a large forest where they meant Lief, who had been there for a while. Lief told them they were in Everlost, a place where lost children go when they die.
Despite already being dead, there are some major obstacles to get around. The biggest one is the ground. Unless you are standing on a dead zone, a place where a death had happened in the past, you will slowly start sinking into the ground toward the center of the earth. According to Lief, there is also a monster named the McGill running around who eats children.
The trio head toward Nick and Allie's homes. On the way, they run into gangs of boys who think they're tough, a know-it-all girl who lives in the Twin Towers in New York City and rules all the kids, and the McGill.
Find out how Allie, Nick, and Lief cope with the Afterlife today!

I am glad i read reviews before i started to read, it basically set me up to be prepared for a younger YA novel rather than an older YA.
I thought this was a great book - so much so that i am totally going to go and rent the next one. I'm thinking of giving it to my 10yr old bro as well cos i think he will really enjoy it.
Potentially it could be a wonderful older persons book too, It could be made SO much darker! But i liked it for what it was.
I don't have much to say on this one except go into it knowing that it is aimed at younger kids (11-14) rather than older (16+)

This book is about Allie and Nick journey through the world of everlost. They die in a car accident only they don’t reach where there are supposed to and instead get stuck in the eternal world of everlost.
First thing to keep in mind while reading the book is that one shouldn’t compare it to unwind, or you would be bitterly disappointed. It's nowhere near it in terms of emotional depth and characters. But the book in itself has a very very interesting concept. Neal Shusterman is a very creative author, and I loved his idea of everlost. Twin towers crossing over inn this world, the sinking to the bottom and even McGill’s character were interesting.Loved the climax. Overall quite an enjoyable read, and I am planning on reading the next part.

I was really excited for this and I definitely think the world it’s set in is very interesting. I just lost steam half way through and felt like things were happening too slowly
