Okay I really did love this book but it was not a five star book and I don’t think I can place why. I like the characters and plot but I feel like it just brushes the surface, hence why I will 1000% be reading the rest of the series.

My eyes hurt due to the amount of eye rolls I made.

Annoying characters and story does not make sense. Like she's supposed to be the best assassin and yet gets startled so easily?? LOL.

Also how are you gonna start being attractive to the people of a kingdom that are horrible?? I get she's trying to do an enemies to lovers but make it make sense though. Honestly I would keep reading for the side characters, they actually sound much more interesting than the main characters.

I cannot listen to these characters anymore.  They are infuriating.  I do not care for them or the plot.  Everyone is cocky and arrogant, so special and skilled.

I almost dnf-ed when the book mentioned Fae.  I am so sick and tired of Fae when it's written by Maas.  Let me just make a guess, the fmc is part Fae?

Everyone is attractive to everyone, they're all so pretty and handsome.  That attraction is always so strong.  Every main character in Maas's books are attractive, even the side characters.  I'm so tired of reading/listening to "x's eyes followed her figure", "x's eyes looked her up and down, grinning slyly", "he was handsome in a mysterious sort of way".  PLEASE, STOP.  I AM TIRED OF EVERYONE BEING ATTRACTIVE.  EVERY BOOK.

The plot is bland.  Ooh, a competition to become the king's champion, and *gasp* she's the only woman competing, and *double gasp* the other women in court are vain and snarky?  And the prince, his friend, and a potential competitor all find her attractive??

I can't stand anymore of Maas's books.  I'm done with her.

And the fact that everyone says the Throne of Glass series gets good after the first and second book?  No, I can't wade through this crap anymore.
