I am very conflicted about this book. I am not 50, so this is not a book written for me, but it still just felt slightly off. This felt more like an anthology about the life of a small town instead of being just a single story. I was worried at the beginning, that the book was too short, but it actually felt like a good length, dragging it any longer would have been, you know, dragging it.
Still, there was a lot of stuff I was just uncomfortable about. There was the whole situation with ‘creoles’, there was the way that people in the town treated Patsy and there were the constant remarks about Mildred and I felt like the book would have been better without those things included in.
I feel like in a couple of months I will not be able to remember anything about the book and it will not be a huge loss, but it was fun while it lasted.

Book notes:
This is a rather creative way of letting us know everything about the character
Well, he sure seems like a darling
He actually is a bastard from a basket (this is a ‘there will be blood reference’, I am not just a terrible person)
Taking care of something? That is, in fact, gay as fuck. I love homophobes.
Why would you marry someone who is 22 years younger than you?
Mother is 95? Damn
Paraphrasing, but: “You can’t swim? Don’t worry, the alligators will eat you before you drown.”
Hahaha, *slaps knee* unleaded
Oh… He’s getting better. Google, what’s remission?
The whole ‘Creole’ thing seems somewhat racist
Why the slutshaming of Mildred? + if Oswald doesn’t want her with ‘not-real’ literature, he ain’t getting her
Isn’t keeping secrets between an out-of-family adult and a child like the first sign of pedophilia?
Extra stuff that I just never noted down, the representation of Patsy's mother was terrible. Not every parent can take perfect care of their child, especially when life gets tough, that does not mean that you should immediately hate them and believe them to be fully incapable of caring for a child in any way. Also, somewhat interesting, how the entire town was interested in helping poor Patsy but no one really cared about the son’s that Patsy’s mum had.

This was heartwarming and gentle. The characters were endearing and it was easy to read. I liked the small-town community feel with its dinners and newsletters. It’s very cheesy and the ending is predictable and miraculous however it’s a short, comforting read.
