I enjoyed this book, although not as much as the previous one. I think reading them back to back was a poor idea. However, after waiting a month and coming back to it (especially after having read "Lord of Light") it was again enjoyable.
This is my favorite type of Miles novel: I love him when he’s being Admiral Naismith. And all the shenanigans with Emperor Gregor are fun, too—I finally see why some people ship Miles/Gregor (although I am still not inclined to). This book is just so much fun, with adventure and space battles and espionage and all that good stuff. And yet Bujold makes time for the important character moments, too. All of which really makes me wonder…why has no one tried to adapt these books as a TV series?
A bit more of a strugle to get through than other books in the series, but still pretty good. One interesting aspect is that as the series progresses, there is little reliance on the conceti that people who whisper can't be heard. since the books weren't written in order, this is a nice devlpment well manged.

Another exciting entry in the series, with many twists and turns. More serious than The Warrior's Apprentice but still has some humor sprinkled in ("The cream pie of justice flies one way").
I listened to the audiobook read by Grover Gardner. I love listening to Miles. He's unassuming and brilliant, and I'm perfectly OK with a series in which a likable and witty narrator overcomes all obstacles--sometimes by dumb luck, sometimes by brilliant Subterfuge.

This was another of the two Hugo Award winners I was reading. Perhaps this is what’s called “space opera” which is a play on soap opera, because it seemed sort of outlandish and just kind of uninteresting at times. Could’ve absolutely been a novel with zero science fiction in it and if you changed the names it would’ve worked. Or maybe it’s because it’s book six in a series I haven’t read. Either way, just okay.
