Miles was more likeable in this one-- less of a chip on his shoulder-- and I do quite like Gregor (always such a sucker for the reluctant royal trope...)
Still I should probably take a break from this series for now... I think I might enjoy future volumes but only if I space them out a bit to avoid a Miles overdose.

Engaging and fun and appreciate a disabled main character

Автор пытается создать ему ограничения: неопытность в первой книге, честь мундира во второй, однако Майлз красиво так выворачивает происходящее, что остаётся при своих прилючениях и ограничениях. Кажется, что ограничения любого рода только подстегивают его изобретательность и желание вывернуть происходящее себе на пользу.
Он был бы чудовищным императором. У него нет терпения Грегора Форбарры или сдержанности его матери Корделии. Да, он сдержан как фор, как ребенок, растущий среди ограничений, он прекрасно умеет сохранять лицо. И именно благодаря тому, что он - фор, благодаря трудному детству и здоровью, он пытается всё это компенсировать энтузиазмом космического масштаба. Он рос в тени отца, и Майлз не тот человек, который сможет жить осознавая, что он не сделал чего-то настолько же значительного как его отец. Майлз не тот, что будет сидеть в тени чье-либо славы, он будет стяжать свою. Правда, эта слава и прихнание его заслуг нужны ему в глазах только нескольких человек, на самом деле. И Майлз может и готов оставаться в тени, если его близкие будут знать, что он делает и гордиться им.

I didn't like Weatherman quite as much as I remembered. And there were pieces mid caper in which the book dragged a bit. But the last third or so was as strong as [b:The Warrior's Apprentice|61906|The Warrior's Apprentice (Vorkosigan Saga, #2)|Lois McMaster Bujold|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1170597854l/61906._SY75_.jpg|2792] and [b:The Mountains of Mourning|29739795|The Mountains of Mourning (Vorkosigan Saga, #5.1)|Lois McMaster Bujold|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1459310074l/29739795._SX50_.jpg|2709863]. And we got to visit with some of the Dendarii, though we didn't get to linger. And this book just sets up so much of the later books. And we still haven't made it quite to Jackson Whole. Some witty writing. Some character hints. We do get to see a bit more of Gregor in this one. And a bit of Simon Illyan.

Sometimes it seems as if Bujold was lost and fumbling around, but there's also a charming verisimilitude to the way we actually do feel our way from one part of our lives to the next. You get the promotion, just not in the way you thought you would. (And at the end, Bujold ties the psychological cords together masterfully.)
