Quizá tiene un ritmo mas irregular (comparado con la genialidad que es el de Barrayar), pero el estilo de escritura de Bujold junto con la construcción que hace de los personajes, convierten a este libro (y esta saga) en puro entretenimiento.

After a slow start, this book changes tack completely and becomes more like it's (chronological) predecessor, The Warrior's Apprentice. Miles falls from one mess into another and talks his way out of trouble or just has blind good/bad luck, sometimes caused by HUGE coincidences. Still, it's an enjoyable read, and not too heavy.

So, I expected to like this as much as the previous one, [b:The Warrior's Apprentice|61906|The Warrior's Apprentice (Vorkosigan Saga, #2)|Lois McMaster Bujold|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1170597854l/61906._SY75_.jpg|2792], but although I liked it well enough, I found it less strong that that one. Come the big battle scene at the climax of the book, I found I just didn’t care all that much about the outcome and floundered. I eventually got through it, but I am probably going to stop there for a while. I found the whole “emperor” subplot also not quite believable. The writing is still solid, but the oomph isn’t there the same way is was in the earlier volumes I read.

How did this win a Hugo?

I love the Vorkosigan series, but this is the worst book in it. This is like… 3 unfinished books poorly cobbled together, and 2 of those are just Miles randomly stumbling around, somehow managing to fall up a bunch of ladders.
