Though I did enjoy the back & forth between the past experience on Batu with Anakin and the present struggle with Vader, you could summarize half of the dialogue between them as constant suspicion. Thrawn makes some interesting moves that support 2 different fronts, and Vader is not having it. His understanding is starkly black and white when it comes to playing for the Empire. Thrawn clearly sees things as more complex than that and finds that he can do good for more than just the Empire. By the end they're in an almost buddy cop situation. We'll see where Thrawn Treason takes us next....

The character voices and effects are once again fantastic. My only gripe is with the Anakin voice being a bit too Attack of the Clones LOL he can be super whiney.

This story feels like it would have been better of as a Novella. My biggest point of praise is how Zahn writes Anakin and Padme. I felt it lined up incredibly well with how they were portrayed in The Clone Wars, and felt this could easily have fit in as a 2 or 3 episode arc. But that comes to the core of the issue I have which is that there's nothing that interesting. This comes from a lack of a sense of dread or urgency. We're told the conflict is important, but I never felt that way as a reader. If you enjoy Anakin and Thrawn, you'll like this. But it's not a must-read Star Wars novel.

I was planning on taking a break after the first Thrawn, but decided to start the 2nd one just to get a taste... once I saw it was a Vader + Thrawn book I couldn't put it down! Shit was crazy. First one was better comparatively, but this one was still super good. The new Tie fighters were literally PROPOSED in the new Tales of the Empire series that was released less than a week ago so that was cool seeing that the Empire actually did end up using them. Ugh I guess I gotta read the 3rd one now, and I think the newer Thrawn trilogy takes place before this trilogy?? So much mystery around the Chiss that I'm dying to hear about how Thrawn became Thrawn b4 the Empire. The dual Thrawn + Anakin and Thrawn + Vader was super interesting. I like Thrawn?? am i supposed to??? idk we'll see what he does in book 3. treason.........
