First off, this trilogy was a cover buy. I knew/know NOTHING about the author. I had NEVER heard of him, and actually STILL don't know anything about him...except that I'm loving his stories.

SO, when starting the first book...we are told the parameters of what's at hand...and I bought in, totally.

Detective Henry Palace is the type of person that you want on your side. Loyal, to a fault. In this dying world, he's trying his hardest to stay honourable and doing "the right thing", even when, it is no longer his job.

When opening THIS book, I was wondering IF the author would be able to sustain the level of curiosity and tension...that he was able to do in the first book. Glad to say, he did it. Harry's circumstances are now different, but he's still the "solid rock" that you want, no...NEED on your side.

About 75% into the story, I thought the books has to be over, right? No, there were still unresolved parts of the the inciting incident in this novel's story...and the author was able to clarify some thiings, and also sets up (tees) the final book up beautifully.

Onward to World of Trouble by Ben H. Winters.

Such an interesting premise soured by such a boring main character. I guess that’s by design. I will be reading the last book, I gotta know what’s gonna happen, but Hank is dry toast.

Book two of this series didn't disappoint. Easy reading, a page-turner, a plot that wasn't predictable to me. There were some twists and turns that other reviewers might find to be stretched a little thin - how many times can one detective get so lucky? But I just went with it. All-in-all, I would recommend for fans of fiction, particularly dystopian/apocalyptic fiction.

Never quite sure the plot is as good as the world that the author created. Nonetheless, an enjoyable series.

This was a good continuation of the first story. Same overall feel, same characters, and furtherance of the overall plot. I'm highly interested in the big picture and what, exactly, is going on.
