looooove this! went through his previous works and beautifully summed up he writes with a great wisdom. this brings a lot of insights and tools for what i am profoundly thankful and will apply from now, doesn't matter what level of trauma any of us has experiences if we happened to have read this it means something, we're part of something greater than us, may these lessons be the starting point or the reassurance of keep it up for we all matter.
Physician [a:Gabor Maté|4068613|Gabor Maté|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1454508047p2/4068613.jpg] expertly and clearly delves into the sicknesses affecting society and those within it, and how those sicknesses can stem from traumas that patients are never directed to expound upon by traditional medicines. Furthermore, he steps back to argue that the normalization of these illnesses as merely maladies of the physical body leads to dis-empowered patients with worse health outcomes. The section which most affected me was his brief detour to talk about the ill effects of having a Type C personality, and how that personality type is more vulnerable to disease and stress throughout their lives.
I feel somewhat out of my depth reviewing a non-fiction book given that it's rather far outside of my wheelhouse, but I enjoyed it thoroughly and found myself thinking about my own life differently because of it.

I loved this book. In some ways it didn't have the flow that Hungry Ghosts had, but the content, the message, the learning, were all invaluable. I am a Mate fan, through and through.

While it’s probably true that more doctors can ask about past traumas that may lead to various illnesses, I find it pretty hard to believe that all illnesses and personality disorders are caused by trauma.
You can’t just come out here and say that Trump is the way he is because of childhood trauma. While that certainly may play a role, the author is acting like it’s the only explanation.
