Junebug has gone and done it again. This story is told in third person and is the second book in The McBrides of Montana series. You can read it as a stand-alone, but the characters from the first book are prevalent in this one along with some finer details. Told in third person, it follows the precocious Junebug who has been corresponding with Epiphany from Nebraska through the Matrimonial News posing as her oldest brother, Morgan.
Morgan abandoned his dreams of life on the trail as a cattle driver when his ma passed, and his pa ran off leaving him with all his little brothers and a little sister to raise. Now he has his heart set on getting back to that trail away from all the fracas, but Junebug has other plans. She thinks he just needs a wife and that will keep him home and happy, not a bunch of old cows for company. Morgan is ornery and has a habit of not listening to anything anyone says.
Pip has been told her whole life that she is homely and none of the local men, even the old ones, will accept her for wife. Determined not to end up at home taking care of her sour parents the rest of her life, she sets off with her older brother John and maternal Grandmother as chaperone to meet the man she believes that she has been corresponding with in the wilds of Montana. They quickly rid themselves of John, leaving just Martha who was not a typical mother-approved chaperone and has no intention of either of them going back to Nebraska. Martha quickly becomes an active participant in Junebug’s shenanigans along with having some fun by herself with Thunderhead Bill and Sour Eagle.
This was another amusing and entertaining installment to the series. It was difficult reading about Pip’s family putting her down and I did think that Morgan had almost a too sudden turnaround in the end, but I enjoyed the journey immensely. Recommended to historical romance lovers for a bit of laughter and fun.

Oh Junebug! It was like a warm, comforting hug to return to Bucks Creek, Montana with the McBride family as we read Morgan’s story. Junebug and her antics, her way with words and the hilarious hijinks that ensue truly make this series such a delight! Though don’t be fooled, there is a more serious note to book 2 as we discover the life of the McBride family as they were growing up, the hardships and trauma they lived through and not only due to the era of this book (late 1880’s). Morgan is a loyal man to his family, though he yearns to be free, travelling on the trail with cattle, away from the Montana mountains. Little does Morgan know what Junebug has in store for him!
I love Epiphany “Pip” Hopgood, the FMC in this book. She is strong, fed up and determined to make a good wife. An amazing cook and unaware of her feminine wiles, the romance is a bit slow burn, but turns spicy! There is miscommunication, as you could imagine with a stubborn Morgan and with Junebug involved, however this book had me laughing, feeling emotional and cheering for a HEA. And we get a little teaser of what’s up next with Beau

Morgan is my favourite of the McBride men and second only to Junebug who is truly the MVP.
This was such a fun ride - i really loved the relationship dynamics between Morgan and Junebug and then Morgan and Pip. It was such a good time with a surprising amount of emotional weight and character development.
I loved their trip to Miles City, I liked the interactions between Pip and Morgan on the train, and my heart broke a little during the high tea fiasco.
Plus I loved that the series is getting spicier! Any Barry did say that was the plan all along as Junebug gets older.
Really looking forward to the next one and counting down til Junebug’s book!

I think this one was a bit better romance than the first one. Loved the granny character, very funny and a good companion to Epiphany. I thought that the body dysmorphia thing as far as she goes was odd, but it wasn't overbearing. And she's not SMALL, that's rare for a female lead (don’t worry, Morgan is still so big that he is still bigger than her). I liked Epiphany, I liked that she didn’t take no for an answer and that she strong armed her way into staying. I think that Morgan’s issues in this book were much better written than Kit’s in the last book, but again this suffers so much from the timeline. I wish that there was a longer stretch between Epiphany showing up and Morgan leaving.
Still a colonialist white washing of this period of history. It was a bit campier than the last one which I think may be the only way to deal with this, still not a great solution though.

Loved this. I really liked Pip and I like that she had enough self respect not to beg for Morgan back. I thought it was an easy, funny read. Loved her grandma as well. Also Junebug is hilarious and I can’t wait for the next book.
