After a period spent on Christian stories Rice returns to the horror/morality tales that made her famous.

Taking on werewolves she does the genre a great service by coming up with new ways origins, effects, and characteristics. While the beginning is slow it quickly gains pace and meaning to carry you through a great adventure of discovery.

I strongly recommend it for any werewolf fan or fan of Rice's vampire or witches stories.

I gave it an 8.5/10 on my personal scale.

An Anne Rice novel. Bits of gore; bits of sex; bits of mystery; lots of creativity.

I liked the story a lot. I couldn't stop reading it. At some point in the middle of the book I looked to see if perhaps I'd picked up an abridged copy. I felt like important pieces of the story were skipped over and that I should know why XYZ happened, but I didn't remember XYZ happening. Otherwise it was great!

Nothing Anne Rice has written will ever top the first three Vampire Chronicles and it’s time I accepted that fact.

Anne Rice has still got it. Pacing was a little...odd, but overall really liked it. Rice has a way of putting you right there with the character.

Vampires or to be more specific, horror stories don't do it for me but Wolves? The raw passion, the blood pumping, the urges, all that attracted to this book.

Boring and cringy.

The author compares the process of one becoming a werewolf to an erection.
There’s also werewolf on human sex scenes.

Thank you for Interview with the vampire, but I didn’t sign up for this

This book did take me more time than usual to read. It had so much details. From the houses to the weather. I could create the images in my head perfectly. I give this book 4.5 stars! If you are looking for a detailed book of werewolves that challenges your imagination, I believe this would be the one... though I do think this book should be kept for people over 14 years old (in my opinion)

I've seen a this book listed as horror in a couple of places, but it just doesn't feel like a horror story to me. It has too many luminous musings on faith and philosophy, thankfully unburdened by the overwhelming religiosity of most of Rice's later work.

The language is beautiful, evocative and descriptive without being overwhelming. As a long time Rice fan I appreciate the leanness of the prose when compared to earlier works.

The story itself is fairly simple, with most of the tension coming from the character's inner battle.

All in all, an enjoyable read, though one that takes a good 100 pages to get to going.
