There were several aspects of the book that I liked. Descriptions of the Clutter family, the town, surrounding areas, and Hickock and Smith. Very well-developed characterization, atmosphere, and background story. Structure of the dialogue, interviews, and everything too. Yes, Truman Capote is a masterful writer and journalist. I am proud to share my birthday with him, 30 September.
The part with Dr. Jones' psychological reports during Hickock and Smith's trial and those other psychiatry articles were interesting. It was like criminology. This made me think that maybe I should study psychology. But no, people's minds are too complex. Trying to understand and make sense of them all - it would be too much for me.
The most heart-wrenching part was Smith telling the account of what happened at the Clutter house. How they went around and killed them all, and what each of the family members said and did. Really sad.
Perry Smith. Who committed a "murder with no apparent motive"; he is really interesting. Also pitiful. Most certainly a bad sign, but I identify with him.
The writing is very good and all, but maybe journalist non-fiction is not for me.

This is a great classic. I’ve liked it more than others I’ve read and hourly enjoyed this book.
If you're a true crime fanatic (like me), why not start where it all began?
This was an amazing, informative, and extremely entertaining read. The narrative approach of brief alternating viewpoints was engrossing. The only thing that kept it from being a 5-star read is the last 30 or so pages covering the trial. The story had lost its luster, but I think there might have been pressure to fully over the crime from beginning to end.
Overall, a great classic!

I'm not usually much one for true crime, but this is well written, beautiful prose.
