I truly loved this book, I loved Capote's prose. It was almost lyrical.

I just wish I did not know so much about the circumstances of this book before I started. It ruined the last quarter, just a little.

But still a book everyone should try once.

Its a classic of the genre for a reason and that reason is its detailed and thoroughly researched storytelling of a senseless and tragic event.

True crime is usually not my favorite genre, but this book was very well written and was equally a glimpse back into the Midwest US in the 1950s. In exploring the murder of the Clutter family, Capote gives us a look into public thought and ideology of the time.

I just adore Truman Capote's writing. His powers of storytelling are just as present here as in his fiction. He conjures characters with such colour and precision. This book is abundant with the most striking descriptions, but it all feels so natural and effortless. Of course the story itself is a nightmare - but that's the thing really, is that it's not. It's very real, and Capote renders on every page a haunting portrait of humanity in all its inconvenient nuance.

Well written, but felt pretty sleazy reading it.

It's basically a crime thriller about a mass murder. Although it's well written, it's basically journalism about a mass murder written in novel form. I guess it has some redeeming value, but reading the book for entertainment felt pretty off.
