Here's the thing - I come back to this series probably every year. It's my comfort read. I love the world IA have created in this series, which has in part inspired some of my own work: I enjoy the idea of magic and technology coexisting in a vivid, fully-fleshed out modern world.
BUT, having recently reread Kate Daniels series in preparation for the new novellas, I couldn't help but realize that several elements, mythology, and even characters, are the same in this series as in Kate's world. I have loved IA for over a decade and I will still buy their stuff, but I think the rose-tinted glasses have slipped off and broken on concrete.

Minor spoilers:
I think Curran and Rogan are the same character. While one is a shapeshifter, the other a powerful Prime, their personality (and even some dialogue) are virtually identical.

I still adore this series. I will still come back to it when I don't have the mental energy to read anything new. But now that I've noticed all the similarities, I can't help but feel very slightly disappointed.

I love the innkeeper series, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I didn't mind the plot, but the dirtbag male leads made the romance plotline a bit unbearable for me.

DID NOT FINISH

DNF @ 60%
I love their Innkeeper series, but this one just didn’t connect for me. I was listening to the audiobook, and at about 30% I put it on 1.25x. Around 50% I increased it to 1.5x, and I still couldn’t push through. Mad Rogan is a sociopath who kidnaps and tortures the main character. That’s how they meet. Not really a spoiler since it’s in the cover summary, but the torture was an unwelcome surprise. And even if I could swallow the victim to lovers trope, they had no chemistry, no matter how many times Nevada declares him to be sexy. Maybe it was my expectations. I went in expecting a paranormal romance. I didn’t expect the constant death and violence. I think I’ll re-read the Innkeeper series instead.

I read this years ago and picked back up again but with the graphic audio… It was FABULOUS!
