The Monkey‘s Paw by W. W. Jacobs

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4*)

I came across this story while searching for short-stories about a year ago. On the website I found it, it was said that this is the most popular english horror short-story there is. So I thought, I have to give it a shot.

"the old Indian wanted to teach us something - it’s never good to want to change things." true but obviously three wishes are something barely anyone can say no to. "this monkey’s paw brings unhappiness!" why would anyone watch this paw after all mr morris's warnings and negative experiences with it? i know it seems tempting like it could work for you but no, you're not that special. "a dirty little monkey’s paw isn’t magic! but it was a good story." eish, you are going to eat your words woman. the ending was left ambiguous, i don't know to feel about that. i think anyone could've guessed that mr white was going to wish to reverse his second wish, what if that was their son at the door looking like a literal monster or maybe that was just the magic working, making her believe that her son actually came back to life or maybe herbert actually came back to life but he suffocated to death in his coffin. that's a really sad ending if it's true. also i think that the monkey's paw's magic works but in the most cursed, worst way possible, like how the car that mr morris wished for led to the death of his wife and child and how the $30 000 that they wished came because of their son dying and the money from that. everything that happened in here was so tragic like neither person who wished for something with the monkey's paw deserved that. also i think that the message here is that you should be careful what you wish for and do not tempt fate.

Great classic horror short story that flawlessly demonstrates the importance of self control and the regret of overwhelming greed. For a short story, great, but it didn’t leave any strong impact for me. Never tempt fate, as it will always win…
