“Sleep Tight” by J.H. Markert- this book was definitely an enjoyable read! Paced well, reads like a mini series, keeps you hooked, I would recommend it. Definitely would read more from this author.
This book follows Tess, a detective who followed her father’s footsteps- who captured a serial killer. Now when that serial killer is put to death- her daughter is taken by someone that calls himself the Outcast and wants to take credit for the killings. While Tess, her partner and estranged husband try to find her daughter, she deals with long forgotten memories in regard to the original serial killer and the boy that got away from him.
This book is good old school horror, that also has addiction, cults, mention of SA, child abuse (not detailed), also mental health in the way of dissociative identity disorder.

Absolutely No Hate to the author. But I DNF’d this book. To many characters are introduced. So hard to follow. And by chapter 16 came around I just didn’t care what was happening. It made my head hurt.
→4 stars
this just felt like a long criminal minds season episode, especially bc it takes place in 2-3 days. if you enjoy fast-paced thrillers with a whodunnit question up until the end, look no further.
the slightly spooky aspects mixed in well with the plot, but i only gave four because by the end I was still left with some questions that felt like more than an up-to-interpretation ending. I needed some actual answers like what was up with the dolls?? why animal masks? was jeff pritchard in love with cherry?? also at the end, was anyone else picturing when Aslan is slain in the first Chronicles of Narnia book? i swear, frame by frame, same scene lolol. I liked the fast timeline and the characters being less than stellar people; definitely made it seem more realistic. i'd read more from this author again.
