I was looking for a scary / unsettling book for the Halloween season I received this book by mistake through BOTM and decided to give it a read anyways. I had no interest in it from the beginning. It was a fast read, but at what cost? There were few details and a lot of exposition. I don't want to be told what is happening. I want descriptions. I want to see and feel and imagine what is happening.

It was impossible to connect fully with any of the characters. It wasn't scary or really suspenseful. It felt very procedural and like your stereotypical mass-production thriller that will just end up in a thrift store or local free library in a few months.

I do think my biggest gripe with this is how absolutely brutal the pacing was. It was inconsistent and awkward. Right as Sleep Tight began hitting its stride in pacing, it would interrupt itself. I'm also not sure if I'm the biggest fan of the once again weird and mostly negative representation of Dissociative Identity Disorder. Of course, that's going to be one of the big bad guys in a book like this! There's also some weird as shit misogyny coating the FMC.

Was it ridiculous? Yes. Did I still enjoy listening to it? Yes. I don’t think I would have liked it as a book as much.

Catholic priests, cults, satanic rituals, child abductions, cold case vibes, insane asylums, multiple personalities… this book has it all. It’s been a little while since I literally could not put a book down, even longer since I got creeped out reading by myself late at night, but

I read half of this book and then gave up. There is very little character development. It's not credible to me that the main character's parents were brutally murdered and her child was abducted and she just went on investigating like nothing happened. It did not resonate with me. I didn't care enough about the characters to continue reading and finding out what happened.

Perfect spooky Halloween time read! I literally got chills at some of the parts (lol I am a wimp) and was pretty consistently reaching back for the book since I wanted to know what happened next. Did find it slightly confusing at times with all the characters/“personalities” (audio book helped with this!) and wish Tess was built up a little more. Overall would definitely recommend for this time of year!

This book had a really promising start and I enjoyed the first half of it. It’s pretty easy to guess the ending with about 100-120 pages left, which is totally fine by me, but when it takes the character 60 more pages to put obvious things together, it got so frustrating. I also feel as though the main character’s unwillingness to confront her past when it so clearly was a key way to help find her daughter was annoying. Overall it’s a fine read. It’s fast-paced and quick so an easy one to check out for spooky season even if the end was a little dumb.
