Sleep Tight by J. H. Markert--This thriller is a lot of fun. It really epitomizes an intense "race against time" story, and while there's elements that I didn't love, it's still a fun time. Some overly contrived plot points tarnish the story, pieces that fit a little too neatly together. But it's spooky and enjoyable. Thumbs up.
I picked this book for the cover. The premise sounded interesting. I just really couldn't bring myself to care. It was longer than it needed to be. It was full of stuff that didn't matter. The characters were unlikable and unrelatable. If my parents were killed and my daughter was kidnapped, I wouldn't be getting high and worrying about how my ex cheating made me feel. I think the author was trying to give the characters depth but only succeeded in bogging the storyline down with pointless, boring background and side stories. And the actual story ended up being pretty dumb anyway.
*Sleep Tight* by J.H. Markert is a great read, especially perfect for the spooky season. The atmosphere is eerie and tense, making it an enjoyable thrill from start to finish. The storyline kept me engaged, with its haunting premise and well-developed suspense. I particularly enjoyed the lost memory element, which added an intriguing layer to the plot. However, I did feel that this aspect could have been explored more deeply, as it left me wanting a bit more from that part of the story. Overall, *Sleep Tight* is an entertaining and solid book for anyone who loves a good mystery!

I think this is the first time I rooted more for the supposed “bad guy” than the actual main characters. Sleep Tight had some solid points for a twisty plot, good writing, and diverse characters who weren’t cookie cutter. That being said, most of the plot felt predictable and the reactions of the main characters almost idiotic. Although, we understand why for driving the plot forward and at times the twisty plot felt too twisty - once we find something out sometimes we explored it not enough (in my opinion) and were immediately onto the next twist. Other than this, it was a decent read with an unsatisfying ending.

I loved this book, and I can assure you that it will place somewhere in my top reads for the year! 🙌🏻 It thoroughly creeped me out; at certain points, I recall placing the book down, eyes bulging, mouth gaping, needing a little breather. You’ve got a recently executed serial killer, a psychiatric hospital, kids going missing, bloody messages on walls, lunatics lurking in macabre masks…this story really has it all and leaves no room for escape from its gruesome grip. When I read horror, this is the kind of suspense and scares I hope for. There’s no sleeping tight here, just you, late at night, feverishly flipping the pages, terrified yet unable to resist the pull of the plot. Five stars from me!!
