Entire time it was me picturing Kusco as a Llama narrating this, and 0 complaints about it.
I am giving this a 3.75/5 ⭐️
Leave your sensitivity at the door, this guy is still living in the 80's & 90s and his humor is not going to be for everyone.
I enjoyed the journey Dave took us on through his life and struggles, and his becoming the star that he is today. Honestly, even though he comes off a bit self-centered, he's also very humble. Also, Dave was spilling some SERIOUS tea here and there.
I truly loved the relatable humor Dave uses. Sarcasm meets self-deprecation - my kinda style

I've never been huge fan of David Spade's. I liked him on SNL well enough, but I haven't seen many of his movies, and didn't know much about him. At the recommendation of a good friend, I went ahead and listened to his audiobook, which he narrates. It's pretty crude and raunchy at parts, but through his story, his self deprecation, and the way that he chuckles at what he's reading, he endeared himself to me. I really enjoyed the chapters about SNL and movie making. I had never seen Tommy Boy, but after listening to that chapter, I watched it on Netflix, and was pleasantly surprised by what a sweet movie it actually is. I had no idea. The audio book with David's narration is quite funny and I'm glad I listened.

It takes a lot for me to laugh out loud while reading a book but Spade’s book accomplished that multiple times. The perfect beach read when you want something fun and light that you’ll enjoy. My only real complaint is that he spent very little time on specifics that people might want to hear about such as his time on the sitcom just shoot me (I think he mentioned it once), and more details about his relationship with Chris Farley, which I’m sure we all would appreciate.
I’ve always been intrigued by David Spade. His Hollywood Minute bits on Saturday Night Live were hilarious and so well-written. He’s been a scene-stealing supporting cast member in the TV series Just Shoot Me and Rules of Engagement. In both shows, he played a womanizing jerk. However, in his appearance on talk shows, he is self-deprecating to the point where it seems like he really does have low-self-esteem. Yet at the same time, he’s kind of a womanizer like his characters. But then, he dated Heather Locklear?! He’s an enigma. I picked up his book, hoping I could get to the bottom of who the heck is David Spade.
Almost Interesting starts in David’s childhood but the bulk of the book is about his career leading up to and as a cast member of Saturday Night Live. If you want an in-depth look at how an episode of SNL is put together, this is the book for you. I enjoyed learning about how the writer’s room at SNL works. David was there for five years and had imposter syndrome (that’s my diagnosis, not his) basically the whole time. He was always worried that he was going to get fired. I think that the self-deprecating humor he portrays on talk-shows comes from a place of genuine vulnerability that is in this book as well.
There are also some stories about the movies he made with Chris Farley, who was a close friend. He doesn’t go into much detail about Chris’s personal demons but I wouldn’t expect him to. There’s almost nothing about the two TV series he was in. The biggest disappointment is that there is NOTHING about Heather Locklear. I can only hope that he held back some info to include in a second memoir.
Memoirs from comedians can be hit or miss. Often their humor doesn’t translate well to the page. While some of the humor in the book was on the obnoxious, swarmy side, I thought that the sincere parts of the book made up for it. Recommended, especially for SNL fans.

Going in I didn’t know much about David Spade; I regularly rewatch both Grown ups movies and have seen some of his stand up comedy, but this was quite interesting and funny. I enjoyed following his journey of becoming a comedian, all the interesting people he met and the highs and lows of his early career. I ended up watching a few of the snl skits he mentioned, and though the comedy of that time wasn’t for me, I understand why ppl enjoyed them and why they were defining moments in his career. It was written in a very comedic way, mostly light hearted with some somber moments, that came across in the writing even with the undertones of humour.
My biggest issue was the ending; it was very abrupt, ending on his drug use. It was a weird place to end it. It just felt a lil incomplete, which is okay because thats the nature of life.
There were also some comments and actions, specifically regarding women, that I thought were rude and problematic.

This was a quick listen on audio, but it helps to be a Spade fan. Not a lot here to change your mind if you're inclined to loathe him. What I liked? The details about his career pre- and during SNL. Spade owns the fact he's not the strongest sketch comedian. It took him some time to find his voice and score with some recurring characters. What I didn't like? When he talks about women it's cringe-worthy. Imagine eavesdropping on frat-bros and you'll get the idea.
Also, while there's plenty of Farley recollections, Spade doesn't delve too deeply into his friend's demons and how Spade, himself, felt about Farley's many excesses. If you're looking for a glimpse into Spade's personal pain surrounding his friend's death you're not going to find it here. Also, barely a mention of Phil Hartman. Not terrible, not great, mostly just "meh."

I have loved David Spade since I was a little girl, so this book was a true delight for me. There is so much behind this comedian that you just don’t know. The trials that he went through to be where he is, his early life, his struggles at SNL and his friendships. Him reading this was the icing on the cake for me and exactly why I love non fiction audiobooks.
i listened to this book to hear spade talk about his relationship with chris farley. i was looking forward to hearing some funny things about their friendship. that is the only reason this gets two stars.
the way spade belittles women in this book is disgusting. do not recommend.

Really only read for his take on his SNL years and relationship with Farley.
It's Spade and I love him. ''Twas nice to hear stories about back in my day, but even better were the stories of Farley. There was even a Patrick story!! A must read for any Spade fan or even just SNL fans.
