[Read the Swedish ed.]

Stalker started out very suspenseful, with some nerve-wracking (and graphic!) scenes featuring the acts of a brutal serial killer. I spent a long time on the edge of my seat, trying to identify the murderer before the revelation.

My biggest complaint is this: the reveal of the killer's identity felt unsubstantiated. The character's behaviour as perpetrator seemed as if it was manufactured, mostly out of thin air, for the sake of a Shocking Plot Twist, and I thought it cheapened the story as a whole. Also, the book suffers because of its length: a 100 pages could've easily been cut without any detriment to the story.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to reading more of this series. The suspense is built up well, even though the climax and reveal did not quite hold up to the quality of the mystery itself. A solid thriller overall!

I have to commend the authors for the rare good portrayal of a blind character, now I only need to see a good portrayal of a blind character who can still see some stuff, something most people appear to think is impossible. Other than that, fantastic story and a villain impossible to predict as usual

STALKER by Lars Kepler is definitely one of my favorite books I’ve read this year. It’s very graphic and extremely detailed but it’s a wild ride that I loved. I’ve always enjoyed police procedural type of books and this is no exception. When a book creeps you out and makes you actually feel like you are being watched, you know it’s good! I loved the characters in the book, and can’t wait to read the rest of Kepler’s work to see how they’ve all developed to this point. STALKER is part of a series, but they can all be read standalone. This was my first Kepler book and I was okay without knowing the series background, but now that I’m hooked on the writing I’ll be catching up!
