Skye Warren has quickly become one of my favorite authors! I fell in love with her gritty and raw writing from The Endgame Trilogy. I didn’t think I could love a couple more than Gabriel and Avery, but I was totally enraptured and captivated with Damon and Penny. We get a glimpse at their relationship in The Endgame Trilogy, but in The Prince (a prologue to the Masterpiece Duet), we get to see how the bond between the two started.

Penny is such a strong and extraordinary heroin. I absolutely adore her! She’s learned from an early age that you can only count on yourself for survival in a world like hers, but she has one advantage. Penny has the amazing talent of being a math prodigy. A talent that her gambling addicted father takes advantage of when possible. When this particular talent gets noticed by a very dangerous man, Penny will have to trust in another for her survival.

Damon is such a mystery. In The Prince, we get to meet him as a young adult that turns into an alpha male and we get a peek into the mystery behind the man. This is definitely prequel you do not want to miss! Such an amazing start to the duet!

5 "I long for the impossible" Stars!!!

I was ridiculously excited to get inside this book and eat my way threw it. Because, let’s face it, Skye Warren is my every indulgence. The book was very short, but even in a short prequel, Skye still makes me FEEL EVERYTHING with her words. I long for the impossible.

Damon Scott traded himself for me. He’s the only reason I’m safe. And I’m the reason he’s not.

You’re probably like, “Wtf with the mermaid gif?” WELL, you should read the book to find out wtf :).

Damon. His black-lake eyes. When I first met Damon Scott, in the The Pawn, my brain and my body were begging for a Damon Scott book. He is just so evil and perfect. Damon is the not a good man, raised by his father, who is evil incarnate. But I was drawn to Damon right away, even though it wasn’t even his book. And Skye writes THE BEST anti-heroes.

Penny. I loved learning more about Penny in this book. We didn’t know much about her from The Castle, so I was glad to learn about her past and who she is. And I love her already! She is a “baby genius” in all things numbers, helping her father gamble and cheat. And I love a GIRL GENIUS! She meets Damon when they are young, but there is another story, Damon’s story, that we still don’t know. This prequel is written from Penny’s pov. And I am dying for Damon’s pov and to dive inside his evil brain!

I want to know when we resigned ourselves to this. When we noticed the iron bars around our lives and decided not to rail against them.

The ending of this prequel was perfect, and I am so excited to start The King and learn more about Damon, Penny, and Damon & Penny!

This is where we first meet Penny and Damon it gives us a better understanding as to how they began. This is when they were just kids and how they met before reading the King it shows us a piece of the past. It was page turning and I loved it completely!

This definitely left me interested enough to read the official first book in the series.
I do love a dark romance.

The beginning of Penny & Damon

This is the beginning of Penny and Damon. I was intrigued about them whilst reading the Endgame Trilogy. I am so glad the now have their own story.
I am away to immerse myself into the Masterpiece Duet.

I liked this novella. It had mostly a backstory effect before our main heroes were met. Also, it included a small part of the King novel.

This was as bad as I thought it would be. I know that this is a super short intro to this series but I went into it thinking it’s a full story and to see if id continue and i will not. This was so weird. Although the book was supposed to be super short Skye could have explained things a little more to make people interested in picking up the series. everything was extremely vague and I don’t see how a series can be made with this plot line. Super basic and Super bland. Anyways.

I’ll be honest and say I’m not crazy about the short stories that work as extended prequels, and that’s exactly what The Prince offered. It was a quick prequel to The King, one that had me curious about events but never quite sucked me in.

I think what stopped me from enjoying this as much as I could have was the fact the story did not feel like it was being told by a child. I know she was supposed to come across as a child genius and that experiences have aged her, but it was difficult to connect when I didn’t quite believe.

Although it didn’t quite work for me it did leave me wanting to see what happens in The King.
