i didn’t love it,
i feel like why spend the entire book biulding up these romances to get rid of them. i know who everyone ends up with but honestly i’m not sure i care. i’m probably not going to read the rest of these books.

I don't have a lot to add to the narrative on this one. It reads like a CW pilot meets The Selection. It felt like I was feeding my brain once cream for dinner, indulgent, fun,  and highly needed on occasion.

I quickly got sucked in and found myself enraged at the AUDACITY of a certain character.  I wasn't even halfway through, before I placed a hold at the library,  on the 2nd book.

I had heard how great American Royals was from another lovely bookstagrammer & really needed a romantic drama to dive into. I knew from reading the synopsis what I was getting into already so with no expectation of some deep complex narrative,  I opened it up with a bookish excitement for all of the fluff, drama & scandal I was about to embark on. Sometimes we need it!

“That was the thing about success, it could be even more draining than failure.”
Katharine McGee, American Royals

Majesty
is the second book in this duology and I ordered it before closing the last page. This is possibly one of the best paced books I've read in ages. It is truly a page turner. It's a revision of the monarchy; a royal tale with an American twist. This story is centered around the descendants of George Washington. When the Revolutionary war was won, George Washington was offered a crown and two centuries later down, the bloodline, the young Washington royals are navigating  youth, young love, the responsibilities, duties and the hardships of being American royals; a life they didn't ask for.

I would say this book is not plot driven, but character driven. In addition, I didn't find that there was much development among these characters, but I also wonder if that was the intention of the author. It reminds me that sometimes when we, as humans, are in a place in our lives where we feel stuck, pressured and uncertain we can become stagnate. Maybe there is no growth, revelation or a downward spiral for these characters. It felt like these characters, especially with their freedoms being sort of curtailed, were dealing with the burdens of being royalty as they came. They often made rash decisions and even sinister ones.

This story centers around siblings - Beatrice (Princess Royal & poised to be queen), Princess Samantha, Prince Jefferson and their counterparts. The relationship between Beatrice and Samantha was delicate & complex. Beatrice receives backlash form the American people about taking the thrown as a woman. It was difficult for her to connect with her sister because she was constantly at odds with who people expected her to be and who she wanted to be & who she wanted to love. An authentic loving, bond between them seemed difficult to grasp when one felt in the shadows of the other. I'll leave it there as to not spoil you. Prince Jefferson was a wanted man teeming with every girl in American wanting his royal hand including the antagonist of this book, Daphne. Oh my!

Let's just say the lengths she takes to try to get him are menacing at best. I dislike her personality type immensely. Since there is a second book, get ready for a cliffhanger in this one!!

Overall this was such a fun read. What if America was a monarchy? I enjoyed how the author painted such a vivid picture of all of the royal attire, the palaces and glamour of it all. She maintained the royal lifestyle while adhering to the character's American tones and American culture. This book is very YA and reads as such, but I would HIGHLY recommend this if you are in the mood for a quick, fun, sappy and dramatic read!!

Book was purchased.
