This book was a romantic whirlwind with all of my favorite tropes, from forbidden romance to only one bed! Multiple points-of-view are masterfully used to build suspense and drama between the characters. Although at many points, the plot was predictable, which removes the shock-value from the surprises. Overall, SUCH a fun read that I binge-read in 2 days!

The story is very predictable. There were moments when the characters could have done something interesting and unpredictable, but they never did. Everyone was so understanding and forgiving when they were wronged or mistreated that even the drama was predictable and kind of uninteresting. I liked the characters but didn’t love them. They could have been deeper and more complicated.
Overall, I really liked the concept of an alternate history of the U.S. becoming a monarchy. It was well written and I liked the varying perspectives of the different characters. It could have been so much more.

When I started hearing about this book, I wasn't so sure what I would think. An American royal family, AU style as though George Washington became George I of America? Kind of silly, but I decided to go for it because, hey, why not?
This was completely everything I wanted it to be. A little ridiculous and a whole lot of royal drama. Literally, everything that I might have wanted in my life.
There's Beatrice, the firstborn daughter of the current king, bound to be the first ever Queen of America, who is falling for the entirely wrong person. Then, there's Samantha, the younger sister and spare heir who is full-on resentful for it and is trying to figure out what she wants. There's Nina, a commoner who happens to be Samantha's best friend. And then there's Daphne, the girl who wants to marry into the Washington family no matter what.
All of this energy comes into the book and I couldn't help but make connections to the current royal family. There's a Elizabeth II vibe with Beatrice, coming up in this world where she has all of these duties and the crown must come first. Then there's Samantha, much like Princess Margaret, who feels resentful for being the spare and having her whole life dictated. Daphne, the conniving ex who will do anything to get in, which is much the view of any woman who marries into that family.
What else can I say? It was honestly just a great read. I was captivated by it and it's one of my favorites from this year. While I love books that are heavy with difficult topics, sometimes I need some ridiculous fluff to even myself out. I cannot wait for the next book!
