This book has destroyed me. It show slow to get into at first. But the main highlight of the first part is Rob and Cassie's friendship. I loved those two's interactions so much. So it broke my heart to watch it deteriorate throughout working on this case. At the end there's an author's note about authenticity of police procedures, how basically the book isn't 100% accurate. But the level of detail really makes you feel like it is. The same goes with how well-written the characters are. There's so much detail in this book it feels real. I found this through a recommendation of books similar to Donna Tartt's work and I couldn't agree more. If you like Tartt's work you'll like this book. I will definitely be reading more by Tana French.

Mystery/Crime is not my usual genre but I very much enjoyed this book. The writing and scene setting were excellent, I found it played out like a movie in my head. The overarching story held my interest and the characters of Cassie and Sam were quite sweet and interesting. I struggled to understand the main character (Rob/Adam) and his narration. He often frustrated me especially the way he dealt with women but that seemed to be intentional. This book is quite long but very readable, especially the last 150 pages! I’ve heard the second book is from Cassies perspective and that definitely intrigues me (I wouldn’t be enticed by another Rob focused book).
