An innovative take on a multigenerational vampire story centering a Native perspective and building off a historical massacre against the Blackfeet people. SGJ is a literary genius.

holy shit!! Delightfully vengeful!! Insane! super fucking weird pacing but well worth it for the payoff!! This worldbuilding may be the craziest I've ever read and I'll never stop thinking about it.

P.S. also ! My 100th book this year and what a 100th book it was 💥

Oh wow. I thought I understood how horrific the colonizers (Americans) were to the Native people who lived (and still live) on these lands, but I was wrong. One may go into this book thinking the horror aspect of it lies within the vampirism and gore but it isn't -- it lies in the systematic ecocide and genocide of the people we ignore daily in America. I highly recommend researching the events that happen within this book while reading as it adds a whole new layer to the horror: that layer being that this really happened. Native blood was the price that was paid for our country to form and it's truly stomach churning.

I docked a star because I really wanted to bang my head against a wall every time I read an Etsy chapter (which was only two but still).

There's so much to be said about this book but I lack the language so I'll leave you will this passage on gluttony: Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. Philippians 3:19

I just found the writing hard to follow. This is my second book by Jones and I am really bummed that I haven't really liked either of them. The ideas and story seem so cool but I struggle to follow the writing.
