Moshfegh does depravity, self loathing and what makes humanity just the absolute worst so, so well. This may be a controversial opinion but I think she’s at her best in a short story. The chances of it all veering in to the gross or disgusting for no real reason is still there but is way more subtle than when she is in a longer format.

A brilliant meandering journey of deranged thoughts and judgements and we never hit the destination. Divisive with descriptions of the body and many character’s disgust with fat people.
Loved less than her novels but can see where she’s hashing out her writing styles in these short stories and will be thinking about the elements and characters for a long time to come, not sure I can remember any of the endings and I just finished.
