I am not sure this is a storyline I'll remember but I did enjoy most of the characters. I will continue the series only because I bought Lair of Dreams months ago in a bout of sadness. I have it as an audiobook from Libby also which I will read together with the physical copy. Also people talked about how scary this book was, and as a person who does not like horror, THIS BOOK WAS NOT SCARY AT ALL. I might write a full out review later.

Overall : 4.75 stars of 5

I give this book a 4.75 out of 5. It combines some of favorite themes amazingly. I think it was well written and it was enjoyable to read. I would recommend it to anyone who would love the 1920s and/or the occult. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

I really really enjoyed this! the beginning was a little hard to get into because of the multiple storylines, but dang i really liked it by the middle of the book. very much plot focused as opposed to romance focused, which is a breath of fresh air. i really liked the vibes of this book & the setting. onto book two!

Five stars for vibes, but it just wasn't fully what I was expecting. I was expecting more of the murder mystery and the occult. It had that sprinkled throughout for sure, and definitely picked up the last hundred or so pages. However, it was slow paced and spent a lot of time on the speakeasy/party aspects. I did enjoy this as it painted a historical picture of NYC at the time, but I do wish the ratios had been reversed. There are also a lot of characters we are following, and sometimes it felt like some of them got left behind a bit, and the group never came together as I was hoping they would. I am looking forward to the rest of the series. I hope going forward the things I found lacking in this one become more prevalent.
