who knew i could be so invested in the stories and perspectives of random extras with up to 30 seconds of screen time?! id say only about 2 or 3 of the stories within this book were a little uninteresting, however the others were fascinating and did a great job of world building and portraying characters in a way that made me care about their lives within less than 20 pages a piece! excited to read the next book in this style, reading a short story collection has helped me get out of a massive reading slump :)

Much to my chagrin, this book is good. Like, really good. Way better than it has any right to be. I slide into outright nerdery with open arms <3

I think the most telling thing I can say about this book is that I read four novels during the month of January, but it took me all of February and half of March to get through just this one. Forty stories is a lot of stories! I love Star Wars a whole dang lot, and its community of fans are precious as peas, but did we need seven (7!) stories about the 3 minutes of the film that take place in Mos Eisley cantina? Certainly, I did not.

As with any collection, there are some stories here that are more miss than hit, but there are also many beautiful and heart-rending ones. If Rae Carson’s “The Red One” doesn’t leave you with a lump in your throat, well, I don’t wanna know you.

An uneven anthology. Some good stories, some mediocre. A couple outstanding, and more than a couple truly bad. Other reviewers have posted story-by-story reviews, but I suggest not paying too much attention to them. I've checked out a few of those reviews and a story I thought was one of the best ("The Kloo Horn Cantina Caper") was panned by several other reviewers, while a story that I thought was the absolute worst in the book was given 4-stars by some. Every reader will have their own favorite for their own reasons. Just go in expecting to find some of the stories wanting. In general, the stories got better as the book progressed. Not sure why that should be since the stories are arranged in chronological order (within the context of Episode IV). There were also too many stories centered around the Mos Eisley cantina. Going back to that setting again and again got a bit boring.

Liked how the audiobook narrators were different for the different stories. Great stories!
