Beautiful world-building, with enough mystery and plot twists to keep you hooked. The world and the way it is written is so vivid and ethereal. Reading this felt like watching a movie. It is a very quotable book too - lots of wonderful wisdom and such.

I liked how the book kept going back to the water moon as a reflection you can never touch but long for.  The chapter 1000 water moons seemed like it was leading to further immense longing.  A world where people aren’t supposed to make choices, and the fear of making choices causing people to be controlled instead of free was something I really enjoyed the author exploring.

Read this. 
It reads like origami. A simple piece of paper with folds that are individually simple but can be difficult to understand, and that turn into wondrous creations we often can’t believe. 
The world building is fantastic. 
The characters are flawed and strong and beautiful.  
The book explores the pull between duty and free will, all within the context of family.

This took me forever to get through.

I had moments where I felt kinda meh about it. But it grew on me as I made it further through and into the story.

Magical Realism is always an interesting thing where I don’t know if I always love them but do usually seem to like them in the end!
