Wow, rare quality book about the terrifying, dangerous, and difficult journey that so many have taken before us and continue to do so. Since it’s written from the POV of the author at 9, the language is simple without making it feel like a children’s book.
At about 97-98% I was stressing out wondering how the author was going to wrap it all up with so many loose ends but the epilogue does an adequate job of answering the ‘where are they now’ (and brought tears to my eyes).

"...but after a few weeks they changed their phone numbers and we lost touch. Mom likes to call them my "angels" but I worry that takes away their humanity and their non religious capacity for love and compassion they showed a stranger. "
"It was as if I had fallen asleep in a field, only to discover on waking that a grove of trees had grown up around me." Charles Simic, The World Doesn't End
Cool cool cool this book was really devastating! Excellent, beautiful, memorial piece of writing (poetry in prose form). I am very grateful that Zamora chose to share his story with the world.

As a third grade teacher, I would love for Javier to write a children’s book about his experience. What an eye opening narrative about what this child went through to be reunited with his parents at such a young age.
Would have been 5 stars, however I had to keep opening up my google translate app to comprehend a lot of the dialogue between people. And since they were native speakers, quite a lot of slang was used and didn’t really translate. Perhaps a glossary in the back for the more commonly used terms would be beneficial.
