I appreciated that there was plot to this - this fell squarely in romantasy (slightly heavier on the romance?)

*I*? *Me*? Rating an *Ali Hazelwood* novel higher than 2 stars??? Who is she????

Honestly, I didn’t go into Bride expecting a whole lot, but having also grown up on AO3 and Wattpad I was excited to see how this mainstream published “Omegaverse” novel was gonna play out and I had a GREAT time.

Most of my issues I had with The Love Hypothesis (and subsequent books I’ve skimmed/read summaries of) had to do with the Super Special and Smart but Small, Very Small FMC and her Big Grumpy Very Tall But Surprisingly Built and Tender MMC, and I…didn’t really see that here! Sure Misery was described as being much shorter than Lowe but only like two or three times, there wasn’t any weird food thing (looking at you, broccoli), and the smut wasn’t the same copy+paste shit I’ve seen in literally (LITERALLY) every other Ali Hazelwood published book (INCLUDING the novellas).

I liked Misery. She was quippy, and while she wasn’t the brightest bulb in the box we weren’t told that she was so so smart while she was doing the dumbest shit and I appreciate it. The fact that she didn’t
catch onto the mate thing
until like 300pgs in did make me question her brains a bit, but that’s fine.

I liked Lowe too. His character, while a bit bland, had clear motivations and was different enough from all of Hazelwood’s other MMCs that I wasn’t picturing Adam Driver the whole time, instantly bringing this book up to a 3 star. :) (not that there’s anything wrong with Adam Driver, I’m just Very Over(tm) the Reylo fandom as a whole)

This book would’ve been 5 star fun except that ending went a…little bonkers. I mean, I look up from the
third act breakup
and someone’s
been kidnapped??
and she found Serena??
and her dad was an even bigger ass this whole time with a villain monologue???
That was a LOT for like 50 pages!! But also I *did* stay up until 3am to finish this book!! Bc I’m not reading werewolf smut at work please and thank you!!

ANYWAY. If you like Omegaverse AUs, and you’re not yet bored of the fated mate trope (thank you, faerie smut, but y’all can chill tf out now), then I would def recommend this one particular Ali Hazelwood novel, and I look forward to the inevitable sequel :)

ALSO if you liked this book!! You’ll love Fangs by Sarah Anderson!! Similar concept, gorgeous edition, and it’s a graphic novel :))))
