I really loved the banter b/n the two MC  and having misery progress as a character
Glad we got to see her happy
I think one of the only things i didnt like was
When Lowe tries to tell misery she had it wrong and that having sex was really fun but he didnt live her or care for her. Obviously such a lie but idk to me was very triggering. I understand why he did it (to protect himself her) but it goes so against everything we see about his character that it just doesnt super sense.

Smut level: 4.5/5 for me;very smut
The sex scenes in this book were very graphic and really intense and rough. I personally like lusty but loving and this wasnt really that. It was mostly pure intense rough lust sex

For some reason I had it in my head that I would hate this book, I think because of a negative review I saw? Glad I didn't listen and read it anyway, because I had a fantastic time.

The Vampire-Werewolf-Human divide set in a contemporary world like ours completely captured my attention. I loved all the supernatural elements. Misery (stupid name) was a very sympathetic and admirable character. Most of her character motivation is wanting to find her best friend, which is beautiful. The romance worked.

I really don't have anything bad to say about this. I'm looking forward to the next one!

This book was fun. I liked what we got of the world building, though I wish we had gotten more. In specific, I liked that "finding your mate" was not the end-all and be-all of the weres' lives, and that it was not always reciprocal. I thought that was a good set up for some really interesting character dynamics (though not really well explored in this book), as well as counteracting the "fated lovers" trope that I tend to be a bit annoyed by in paranormal and fantasy romance books. I thought the characters were fun and likeable. The pacing felt a bit off, especially in the second half of the book, as
Lowe lying about whether or not Misery was his mate
felt a bit shoehorned in for drama in a plot that really didn't need any more, especially as a lot of the plot lines felt like they were rushed to their conclusions at the end of the book.

I wasn't really expecting to like this because I was nervous it would be a little cringey. However, I made it through ACOTAR and enjoyed that, so I felt okay.

Fated mates is not a trope I particularly enjoy and find it a little annoying, because it's "so rare" and yet..

Anyway - the mystery and other elements of this story made it much more interesting cause so much more was happening than just their exploration of their experience. I'm a fan! I look forward to reading the second book this fall.

🌶.5. The banter in this book is hilarious. Reminded me of Light  Out. A wonderful slow burn romance. You know right away the MMC feelings but he us thoughtful and so sweet about her feelings. Super cute and fresh new take on an age old Romeo & Juliet story.
