This was a very slow burn for me. The actual races don't start until the last like 30 pages. I enjoyed the characters though.

[I like this book so far. The races sound scary and daring. I like that Puck is daring and risks letting Gabe see her.
I like that Puck was willing to join the races in order to keep Gabe from leaving. I like that Sean is able to calm the horses down without being killed. I am glad that Puck decided not to ride the horse.
I like that Puck is not willing to give up. I don't like that Sean was not very nice when she was on the beach. I am glad that Puck was okay after the waterhorse tried to kill her.
I really enjoy this so far. I don't like that Gabe is acting so uninterested in what happens to Puck and Finn. I feel bad for buck, since she went all over the place to find Gabe, only to be brushed off by him. I think that the Parade sounds like it will be exciting.
I am glad that Puck is not letting anyone spoil her plans to race. I like that Sean cares about the horses enough to be willing to go to them in the night. I like that Sean is learning how to be stubborn and not give up.
I like that Finn's cat was able to save them from the waterhorse. I like that Sean allowed Puck to ride on the back of his horse. I like that Puck accepted and I like that she had suck a great time.
I really like this book so far. I feel bad for Sean when he find the horse's tendons cut. I like that he doesn't give up and continues anyways.
I absolutely loved this book. I like that Puck won the race. I also like that Sean lived and that his horse didn't kill him, but stayed with him. I like that Puck managed to get Kore for Sean. I really like that Kore was loyal enough to resist the temptation of the ocean and stay with Sean.

I did seriously love me some horses and brooding when I was younger, still do to some extent. The writing of this book was quite lovely, the audiobook readers were interesting and enjoyable but from discussing this with other book club members they also gave me an impression of the book that others didn't share. Possibly because Steve sounds much older than the character he reads had me thinking the characters were much older than they were and their feelings about things a little different to what was written.

I loved this book. I love Puck and I love how she is so determined to race in the races. I loved Sean and Corr and their relationship. I love how Corr trusts him so much and how in the end when Sean returns him to the sea he decides to stay with Sean. I hate Mutt so much and how evil he is to Sean. I hate how Sean saves his life so many times only to be repaid by getting fired. I love how Puck and Dove win the race and how they help Sean buy Corr. I hate how Corr gets a broken leg during the race. I was glad when Mutt got taken into the sea by his capaill uisce. Definitely one of my favorite books. 10 stars!!

I loved this novel so much I might just start it over again. I loved the sketched-in magic of the water horses, and reading Stiefvater's note at the end about her attempts to tell the story provided some context for why the myth was sparse but still felt like such a naturally embedded part of the book. I adored the main characters and the care that was put into mostly unrevealed backstory for the secondary characters. Stiefvater has a subtle ability to describe behaviors that signify mental health issues contextually and in character. I was impressed by that throughout, and am also here for water horses as a runaway nervous system/anxiety metaphor. ;) Poor anxious bloodthirsty ponies. <3

Los caballos no me gustan. Me resultan ariscos y poco confiables. Y bastante aburridos.

This book captivated me from the very beginning, and carried me through to the last minute. Maybe it's the way the narrators brought Puck and Sean to life, or maybe the layers of emotion in the story - another reviewer said something about this being a love story on several levels, and I'd agree. It's not just about Puck and Sean falling for each other, it's about Sean's love of Cor and Puck's love of her family and the love they both have for Thisby. I love Steifvater's Raven Cycle and was surprised to love The Scorpio Races as much if not more. Her writing is really impeccable, her descriptions and imagery, the way her plot builds on itself in unexpected ways - just really enjoyable all around.

I started this book with no expectations whatsoever (I hardly knew what it was about) and have now emerged with a lot of feelings. I LOVE what Maggie has done with the many myths about waterhorses and the way you can tell the old traditions still dictate the way of life on the island. Not much is explained other than through exposition, and it works so, so well in this story! It leaves just the right amount of stuff unexplained for you to fill in yourself. I highly recommend reading it!

A sweet romance, orphans, a ruthless villain, an island of quirky characters, and killer horses that come from the ocean... what more could you want from a YA thriller?

As an ex horse rider, I couldn't not love this book. It had everything i wanted to read and more.

This book was an amazing adventure, I loved how the author decided to put some folklore into an original, beautiful and deep book. The relationships between humans and water horses is something that reminded me a lot of the relationship between a horse and myself: you never command it, but more likely ask him to do something. I found myself thrown into this book, I read it in one go, I love every character and every dynamic in it.

He is slow, and the sea sings to us both, but he returns to me.
