I don't do what I'm told, but I might do what you want if you ask me nicely.

So this is the second book in the Mortal Instruments series, City of Ashes.
This was my first time reading this book and I really enjoyed my time reading it!

Starting with the characters in this book. Clary was still annoying (at least, to me...) just like in City of Bones. It was a little bit better in this book, but I still don't really like her. A thing that I did like was that we got to see Jace's side of the story too, we got to know him more in this book.
Also, Malec. I just adore them.

The Shadowhunter world is so interesting to me! I enjoy learning more in each book and I can't wait to see more of it.

I can't wait to start the next book, City of Glass. I'll probably start that one either this month or the next one!

3.75/5 stars, I'll be merciful and round it.

"I don't want to be a man," said Jace. "I want to be an angst-ridden teenager who can't confront his own inner demons and takes it out verbally on other people instead."

Oh brother... and sister.

By the Angel, I hope this goes without saying that I'm spoiling some Shadowhunter plot points in this. But here I am, saying it anyway.

I'll pretend the "incest" plot line doesn't exist for a few minutes (yes, you heard me correctly) as I try to write the first part of this review.

This book was a book. It had great pacing and some interesting plot points. I laughed a lot. I tried my best to acknowledge the good, I really did. But I truly don't have much to say on it.

Magnus Bane? I love you. Alec? I love you. Isabelle? I love you. Even Simon? I love you. Clary and Jace, however....

Okay, look. I know Clary and Jace aren't actually related. You now know they aren't actually related. But in this book? THEY think that they're related. This is why this "incest" plot line is DISGUSTING. I get it in some parts. They weren't raised together, They fell for each other before they knew, blah blah blah. But nothing gives me the major ICK vibes quite like finding out I liked someone who is RELATED TO ME. I've taken a whole star away from this book just for this. It could've been 4.75.

Magnus and Alec are great, though. Love those guys. They can keep doing what they're doing.

Just not currently interested in the story that much. It’s not a bad book, I just want to read other things

I liked this one much better than the first. I think the first book was bogged down with a lot of world building and plot points that didn’t really enhance the characters but only served to built the world. But this book was much more character driven which I appreciated.
