The man was not well in the head, in all the right ways. What a story teller.

I laughed my ass off! Which is great because I had a HUGE ass. I feel much better now that I'm no longer lugging around such a big fat derriere. If you have a huge ass like I did, read Based on a True Story by Norm MacDonald. Your future non-existent rear-end will thank you after you've laughed your fat ass off and turned it back to a normal size!

I really like Norm MacDonald. I didn't like this book as much as I thought I would, though. I guess his humor is best in 10 minute doses, with an audience.

Wow, what a treat!

Unsurprisingly, Norm is not one to sit down and write a straight-forward memoir. Instead his book is a twisted, postmodern, almost entirely untrue, (morphine-addled, he insists throughout) tour through his life. It's consistently funny from start to finish, especially for fans of his stand-up. Recognizing certain bits from his talk show appearances and video podcast definitely added to the fun for me. The writing is quite good, especially in the closing chapters as we experience the conclusion through the views of Norm and his "secretary" in rapid succession.

I don't do celebrity memoirs. I broke that rule and got this book since I'm such a fan of Norm, but was very pleasantly surprised that it isn't really a memoir at all. Just a story loosely based on parts of his life with absurdity by the truckload and a postmodern flair. Very fun read.
