Maybe 10 words of this book are true. But it is also pretty funny and I highly recommend listening to the audiobook since Norm himself reads it (with some help from his "ghostwriter"). If you're looking for a coherent memoir with insight and behind-the-scenes stories from SNL or his stand-up career, this is not the book you're looking for. But if you want a morphine-fueled road trip story that includes gambling, Make-a-Wish kids killing seals, and non-sequitur jokes on every page then this might just be your thing.
Best line from the book: Norm describes working with real actors on the set of his movie, Dirty Work. "They looked at me with disdain. Like real vampires look at Count Chocula."

What a weird fuckin book. There’s some real cringey passages (transphobia, prison rape), but overall the surreality and density of his nonsense makes it classic Norm. It’s not actually a memoir, btw — he treated the book assignment the way he treated Conan interviews.
While reading this book I found myself in a deep personal struggle, with two sides of my very being at each other's throats, vying for control.
On one corner you have the side of me that found extreme disappointment in his favorite comedian's entire 'memoir' to be nothing but half-truths and lies. On the other corner, you have the side of me that found extreme enjoyment in his favorite comedian's entire 'memoir' to be nothing but half-truths and lies. By the end, the latter managed to wrung out that other fucker, so here we are.
While suffering from a slow start and somewhat being hampered on how some jokes are presented on written form (with one of the most important things with Norm's humor is how he delivers jokes). This book still manages to be thoroughly entertaining, and most importantly, pretty funny. Often found myself having to stifle a chuckle or two when reading this in public.
If you're a longtime fan of Norm Macdonald, read this book.
If you're a longtime fan of Stand-up comedy, read this book.
If you're a longtime fan of opioids and hardcore gambling, read this book.
Or you know, don't. It's a free country after all.

I clearly don't understand Norm's humor. I thought the beginning of this book was amusing when I realized basically every part of the book was a lie. He just made everything up. It got old fast and I don't care what kind of comic you are/were, jokes about rape aren't funny in any way whatsoever. Having a whole chapter about it is even less funny. I wish this had actually been about his life because there's maybe 10% of truth with him talking about his film career. That was the most interesting part but seriously...making up 90% of this book with weird stories of stalking Sarah Silverman/being in love with her, going to jail for hiring a hitman and having a multi-million dollar gambling problem.
This was just a very disappointing book.
