3.5 stars, rounded up. This is a sweet, lighthearted story mixed with a little mystery and wonder. It’s a very simple read and a nice, tidy happily ever after ending. I wasn’t my favorite by this author but it was ok.

I like the concept but, I couldn't connect with the story.
The story follows two women and their struggles to move after the death of a loved one.
Ava blames herself for the sudden death of her ex-boyfriend. One random day, she received a mysterious letter that led her to the small town of Driftwood, Alabama. Ava took the letter as a sign and decided to restart her life. That's where she befriends Maggie.
Maggie never accepted her mother's death. Even when she took over her mother's coffee shop, Magpie's, she kept everything the same. Hoping that if her mother ever returns, it'll be exactly the way she left it.
I wanted to love this novel. I was looking forward to the small town and witchy vibes. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to connect with the story or characters. I also wasn't a fan of the slow pacing. I ended up skimming the last 35% of the novel. Overall, it wasn't for me.
***Thank you to NetGalley, Heather Webber, and Macmillan Audio for graciously sending me the audiobook to review. As always, all thoughts are my own.***

3.5 - cute book, easy read, likeable characters, cozy vibes. It just left me wanting MORE too much. It took too long for some of the relationships to develop and I felt a little cheated by the missed opportunity to really create a deeper connection between some of them

This was such a fun story filled with found family, quirky characters and new beginnings! I love books with flawed characters who eventually see their own worth through other’s eyes. Ava and Maggie are two perfect examples. And the circumstances that bring them together, along with all of the other crazy townsfolk in this beachside town make for an excellent read! Highly recommend!

This review might be a bit unfair, but I feel like this is a whole genre now - a cozy coffee shop or a cozy bookshop in a small town and a misfit ends up there and makes a sweet community they’ve never imagined they could have. I liked this book, I really did. And there were some unique aspects to it. But on the whole I felt like geez I’ve read this book so many times before!! So if you’re looking for a sweet, easy & cozy read, you’ll like it. But nothing super unusual to be found here.

I really enjoyed this book! It took a minute to get into but it was a cute fall read. I felt it was slightly misleading title wise in that there’s a lot less supernatural or mystical/magical stuff that goes on than appears at first glance but I enjoyed it. I’d recommend it to friends looking for a cute fall romance.
