I read this because I loved Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe. And I also love books set in small towns and I love found family and quirky characters. So…why didn’t I love this book? Honestly, I’m not sure. I just struggled to get into it until the last couple chapters at which point I think I was just relieved it was all tying together finally. It’s not a long book but it felt slow. The chemistry was severely lacking between all characters, especially the love interests. I was thoroughly confused about the ages of some of these people which made one of the big reveals at the end especially baffling to me. I thought Ava was much younger than she must have been. There are definitely some sweet moments and it has the ingredients for a story I would like, but it just didn’t work for me.

This was a really good book! It’s about a woman that gets a job offer in another state after she loses her boyfriend. She doesn’t know why she gets this letter for a caregiver but she is drawn to it. Once she gets there she falls in love with the town and people. Towards the end you start to realize the connection she has and why she ends up staying there. I like that it was all tied up nicely and there is love , mystery, a beach and coffee!

Sometimes you just want to read a sweet, sappy, lighthearted book. Heather Webber will always fill that bill. This book is a little cheesy but I always enjoy the element of magic Webber includes.

I really enjoyed this book - it had fantastical elements, chosen family, quirky characters and a small beach town setting, and a plot that kept you wanting to read more.
I love Heather Webber’s books. This one wasn’t my favorite but it was still a fun read. It got a bit predictable and cheesy but at the same time I got lost in some of the wrap up. I don’t think I understand what she’s insinuating in the end with Estrelle. It was too vague and I was really more confused than anything. And I have questions about Ava’s old life and if she ever went back for her stuff… Less cheese and more explaining please.
