Captivating, I could not put it down. That ending however..... Was an.... Interesting choice.
This one was just ok to me, it was quirky, fun and each character had their own bubble fun personality, but this did drag ever so slowly for me the whole way through. Perfect for cozy mystery lovers ans romance lovers. This was a traveling book in my book group on Facebook.

One of the best examples of warm fuzzies set in print I've ever read. There's depth and sorrow, but also connection and sweetness.

All it takes to change the course of our life is a mysterious letter. Ava Harrison has lived a sheltered and overprotected life. She is afraid of many things. One day, she receives a mysterious letter with a job listing. Everything about this is odd. The envelope, the stamp, the job listing for a caretaker for a peculiar old man and his grumpy cat across Driftwood, Alabama. It’s not something that she would usually even consider, but she feels like maybe she is being prompted to take a leap by her deceased ex-boyfriend, Andrew. He’s been gone for a month now, and she wonders if he is helping her move forward. Ava decides to throw caution to the wind and goes.
The small beach town of Driftwood is as charming as you would imagine, with a touch of magical elements. We meet Maggie Brightwell, who runs Magpie’s, a local coffee and curiosity shop. She is a fun-spirited character, knows everyone in town, and hides from her past and the loss of her mother. Maggie has been running herself ragged for years, and it’s taken a toll on her health. At 38 years old, Maggie should be the picture of health, but she constantly does for others before herself. Maggie doesn’t know what to do when Ava shows up with the job listing she put up, took down, and then tossed it in the trash. How did it make its way to Ava? It’s no accident that these two women meet and quickly form a connection.
Ava and Maggie have both struggled throughout life. I’ve sometimes wondered about Maggie’s mental health with everything she has been through, and I feel like the book handles that well. The story alternates between two points of view, giving the reader Ava’s and Maggie’s perspectives of the events. I loved how they saw and experienced things differently.
I got so caught up with these characters and the charming town. I secretly wish to live somewhere where the community comes together to help each other and care for their neighbors. It was encouraging to watch the growth of both women. Finding forgiveness and acceptance for the things we cannot change in life. I loved the touches of magic that are woven throughout the book. It’s just enough to make your heart flutter.
I read the book with a smile plastered to my face, cried a little, and kept thinking that the furry companions had a little touch of magic in them as well. Love doesn’t always come when it’s convenient or be where we might hope for it. But when you do find love, never let it go. If you’re lucky enough to find family, friends, and a place where you truly feel like you belong, that is magic.
